When my gas gauge shows between 3/4 and 1/2 if i take off fast the car
will die for a few sec. then pick right back up. the less gas in the tank the worse it does it. I pulled the sending unit out and could not find any problems so i replaced the pump wile i had it out. Did not change a thing. It will even do it if i corner to fast. Do i need to replace the tank??
Replace the fuel filter. Also what pressure are you getting at the fuel rail? A weakening fuel pump may be part of the problem under a hard accel. Also the sending unit maybe going bad and in Effect 3/4 of a tank according to your fuel gauge might be less than a 1/4. A simular problem when cornering as you state makes this a extreme possibility. The pump will overheat and eventually fail if starves for fuel over time, plus it tends to suck up all the crap on the bottom of the tank. Set your trip meter and monitor your lileage to tank fullness ratio. Just some ideas. GC

I have replaced the filter when i changed the pump.
The gas gauge is reading right and it has good fuel psi. The lower the fuel
gets the worse it gets. Going up a steep hill with low fuel is a bi@#h
Just a thought.......have you checked all of the fuel lines underneath the car to make sure one isn't kinked? Also, the rubber hoses at the fuel pump. Screen in the tank on the pump? New?
New parts have been know to be bad. Make sure you recheck each one you change if no improvement when it's installed.

Good luck!
I have rechecked every thing 3 or more times This thing is driving me nuts
Sorry if I'm being redundant here but :
Did you check your fuel pressure bleed down times? Does the system hold ~30+ psi after the key has been turned off and left to set? Did you change the fuel pump modulator (just above the fuel pump) when you did the pump swap?
I have read in a few threads that cheap gas with high sulphur has caused problems with sending units. They say that one or two treatments with Syntec engine treatment sometimes clears it up. Even if it is not the problem it can't hurt to clean it.
Hill please post up everything you have done. In bits and pieces of information after we give you a suggestion the response is been there done that so tell us exactly what you have done. It will be easier for us to help you troubleshoot. GC

I Hear you I asked that one again as well help us help you out hill.
the fuel psi with key off stays around 35-38 for at lest an hour. Well for the most part i have changed and checked everything fuel related fuel pump, FPR, filter, injectors, the rubber hose on the sender, fuel pump relay, You know now that i think of it there is no baffles in the tank to keep the fuel at the pump. I have been fighting this every senses i have had the car. When i bought it the tank was fuel so it did not do it then. I have not replaced the sender or the tank
I know this may sound crazy but I had an 84 that would do that. I finally traced it down to the rubber hose on fuel pump in tank there were no clamps on it so it would suck air into the fuel line with low gas on hard cornering installed new hose and clamps fixed problem. You might try driving it with a pressure gauge taped to window to see what it’s reading when your trouble happens. Mine also was hard to start after driving awhile when it got hot and tank pressure built up and the hose was deforming and would become loose.

Man this almost sounds like a vapor lock issue, hmm that would be somewhere else to check I guess. Sounds like the poor OP has done everything else. And holding pressure for an hour rules out a lot of other problems as well.
Mine is doing the same thing.. You hit the peddle then it will start talking to you bog down then start to pick up some of the power not all but some and take off. If you stop rev and take off it will act like it wants to go like a bat out of hell but then goes like a turtle with his *** on fire..

Just replaced a sender/fuel pump assembly in a '92. This one had a plastic rectangular dish in the bottom of the tank where the filter "bag" lives. No baffels though. The unit was rusty (probably from ethanol) and the filter bag was toast. Oh. Genuine GM part. Made in China!. Very different from the original. Had to cram it in.
Go figure. MTCW.
Got to thanking about the rubber hoes on the sender so i pulled it back out and it does not have one it has that metal and black plastic piece that the pump goes in. I am going to replace it with a rubber hose and see whats happens
