I am hoping you guys can help me with a place to start. I have a 1993 Ruby.
I am having problems re-starting my car after I take it for a short drive. Starting cold, the car starts up, idles and runs great. After I drive it for about 30 min and shut it off and try to re-start it a few minutes later it will not start. It will at first start but if you give it any gas it will die. After doing that a few times it will no longer start, just crank over. Then after about an hour it will start back up and run fine until you shut it off again.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks, Mike
I'd ohm check the injectors when hot with a VOM---i'd also check with a scan tool the ECT when hot --could be any one of the sensors out of range when it goes into "closed loop" and if you have access to a fuel pressure gauge see what you have when hot. Could be ICM but usually when they go bad it wouldn't start at all until the engine had cooled some--then fire right back up. Could also be opti going belly up but I've never seen one act exactly as you describe
Put a fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve on the end of the right fuel rail when it won't start. Turn the ign key on for more than 2 seconds and then off. Fuel pressure should jump up to 35-42 psi and stay there. If it leaks down rapidly, you likely have leaky injectors. If not, test for spark while cranking. Weak spark is from defective spark coil or spark control module.
