Default Code 34 Intermittently

Every week or so my service engine soon light comes on in my 88. I checked and its the code 34 MAF sensor. I visually checked the MAF sensor and it appears to be good. My air filter is clean. I noticed that it usually comes on when i have to crank the starter for longer than usual (5 seconds or so). Any ideas? Can i easily test the MAF sensor?

Check the pigtail connector that plugs into the MAF. Other then that i don't know of any way to check the MAF itself.

Try cleaning it get some MAF cleaner spray it let it dry. Clear your codes see it that helps.

My 88 threw those codes when the relays went out, they're not that expensive, you can get them at NAPA. There are 2 of them behind the battery. The MAF can "look" ok and still cause problems. I changed the burn-off relays and MAF and the light stayed off.

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes
If after you clean the MAF and it stays off it's more then likely a bad burn off really. As mentioned earlier.
