Default Question??

I have a very clean 1990 Mustang 5.0 Convertible 5-speed that I have put quite a bit of money into. It was chrome wheels, black leather now, and some performance parts ect..

I want to trade it for a C4 Corvette. Well I had a offer for a stock clean black 84 Corvette with a automatic.
I am going to look at it this week.
I know its the crossfire injected engine and I have heard alot of bad things about those.
Is this true and would it be a fair trade?
Would anyone be interested in trading a non crossfire injected Corvette for my Mustang? I have pics and a list of parts..

I love Corvettes and always wanted one but for some reason I keep getting Mustangs... but now I want a change!

Thanks!

Don't listen to people saying 84's are not a good car, they are the first year of the C4's and a little problematic with some one off parts, but there are many on this forum that love their early C4s. I don't know what you feel your Mustang is worth, but you could probably do better than an early C4, unless that's the style you want. They are down a little on HP but still very worthy cars.

For a comparison, here's my 93 which I purchased last fall for $6,250 with 91K miles, new tires, no mechanical issues and it is spotless. I would opt for an LT1 car, but there's nothing wrong with a well maintained early C4 either.

Good luck!

Wow your cars are very beautiful! I have drove a 89 Corvette and I really liked it but I waited a day to think about it and he sold it. They seem to be getting cheaper right now maybe its just the economy.. I want one so bad but I am trying to be patient and not get the first one that comes along. I take alot of pride in my cars and take good car of them so anyone that got my Mustang would like it. It has 225 hp stock but it is not stock.. Not sure how much hp mine has now but it is really quicker now since I put the parts on it I have.

If you really want a Vette you'll get one. I do recommend NO caffine before you see the car You may just be a little to eager to buy/swap on the first one you come across. Look around abit harder. There have been tons of Corvettes built just like your Pony car. Not all cars are taken care of well but most people really try to maintain these cars (the pics posted here on the forum show the awful ideas people come up with). I think if your use to the 5.0 the '84 may not be what your used too. Fun to drive just not a major speed demon. Do you know anyone locally who owns a Vette? Ask them to go with you to check the car out. Four eyes see a whole lot more especially with someone trying to talk you into buying the car. Keep us updated. Copper

Well I posted it for trade on here to see if it goes anywhere, I do thank you for the info.

As far as the caffine I have coffee every morning or else I get a headache so... its a must. lol..

I also rode with a Corvette race car driver that owned a black Z06 race car. I forgot his name though but I seen him on tv before also.. Anyway I held his drink as he took me around this road coarse. Wow! I think I almost pee'd my pants on that one and man have I loved those cars since. That was about 3 or 4 years ago.

Take your time and find yourself a 94-96, the price difference will pay its self in the long run.

Sell the Mustang outright, you'll get more for it than by trading. Plus you'll be hard pressed to find anyone with an LT1/LT4 Vette willing to replace it with a Mustang. Once you have the Vette, you'll find yourself denying that you ever even owned a Mustang

I had the same thing happen to me. I drove a 90 manual, liked it but waited until the next day to buy because I wanted to think about a few problems it had. When I got there the next day, it was sold. Things worked out better for me because about a month later I found my 96 auto with about 40,000 less miles on it for a few thousand dollars more. My 96 has been perfect the few years that I've owned it.

Well, I thought I had a trade for a 87 Corvette Convertible but I think he is changing his mind.. not sure yet. It looks real nice from the pics and has a soft and hard top. Its white with red interior and auto with 70,xxx miles.

I guess I will keep looking. :-(

I owned an 84. Not a bad car at all. The only issue I had with the car was this...
I lived in IN when I bought it. Ran great. Smoked the tires with no problem.
I moved to South GA. The car wouldn't turn the tires over AT ALL.
I rebuilt the CF system three times. It did not help.

I moved back to IN in October. Trailered the car home. The first time I drove it, it ran like a completely different car. COOLER AIR!!!!!!! What a huge difference! If you live in a very hot climate, I would opt for an 85 up.

Now, maybe there was some tuning that could have been done for the hotter air? I don't know. All I do know is that the car really hated the hot air of S. GA.

Good luck on your search for a Corvette.

Youll need to mod the 84 to keep up with your stang.

You never said what the Mustang is worth. Hard to compare it to another car without a value range... (and no Corvette-owner-delusional/NADA fantasy values! )

Well I have about $3,000 in parts and wheels. So I would say its a worth around $6,000+.
