never actually really thought about it on the vette. My 04 silverado had one that looked exactly the same and it controlled the running and night lights.

Its the internal heat load sensor some folks called it the R2D2 sensor due to the dome over the top of it. It measures the temperature inside the car. The outside temperature sensor that actually determiines outside temperatures that you see displayed above the AC controls is located on the underside of the front end/lower radiator area on the passenger side of the car

It's also referred to as the "internal temperature sensor."

Also as I stated this is the outside temperature sensor. This is the sensor that feeds temperarture data that displays "Outside" temp on the AC controls. After removing the old one it will take about a 10-20 mins cycle for the car to reset the sensor before its starts reading accurate. Your mileage may vary. GC

If you have a question that you don't know the answer, then the question is not stupid. It's a question. Remember that. No one will make fun of you for asking a question that YOU think may seem silly. That's why this forum exists - to help people. Unless you ask something like, "why does my car's battery keep dying when I leave my lights on with the car off?" Then you may get made fun of.
