That last comment just made my morning! and no that is not a insult either!
shoot now i have to go look for the numbers on my cam
Not nessecarily. If you can give them the basics, they should know. I didn't have all my information and they were able to help just fine. I gave as much as I could accuratley produce to them.

That works on stock engines but not on modded cars. Especially after heads and cam work.
Looks to me like Mike picked up 15 ponies for his $150 investment, what other mod can you suggest that will deliver comparable bang for the buck?
I was given anywhere from 10-20 with a performance tune. No actual numbers though. Will dyno it. The stock computer is deisgned for a DD with fuel mileage, average person, driving habits. Performance tune overrides that and changes all A/F ratios, ect to get the most out of what you have. It doesn't add horsepower, it makes the power you make go to the wheels instead of trying to get the emissions/mileage setting from the factory.
If it is stock, I would wait until mods are done and have the custom chip done after that, unless you've changed something critical like the camshaft or heads.
Stock, you could get something or nothing. I'd at least tell them to change the fan settings.

I just have the typical cut intake lid and K&N and magna flow exhaust,i am putting on new heads next month maybe i'llwait till than ,it just makes sence thanks for making me think about it for a min I almost wasted money... shew close one

exactly. Since I have an auto ('96) I had Ion firm up the shift points also. That gives a great SOTP improvement. I also run a B&M shift switch to add to the firmness. I can go through the gears manually and it sounds about like a straight. Really quick for a stock LT1.
Most tuners only charge a small fee, maybe 50.00 or so to go back and change things after you have done an initial tune with them.

How is that so? Stock for stock each car is the same. If One car gets 5 hp, then one of the same make/model/year/options will get the same hp no? IIRC was it not you that said exaust and similar mods don't add horsepower but only free it up? Might have been someone else but it fits your theories and regardless, would the chip not be freeing up horsepower on every stock motor and not just maybe?

Ps and waiting on my "air foil" to get here !
Air foil is crap unless you have a heavily modified motor that hits high RPMs on a regular basis and I am referring to over 6000 and that is still a maybe in the added benefits. I have yet to see hardcore proof on any of the aftermarket hot packs ie: K&N, Cut lid, Power Coupler, TB bypass, TB plate, and the infamous AFPR. Last time I checked, a air filter, AFPR and a K&N did not wield a dyno proved 20 hp stampede. Return that air foil.
THe chip will actually help you. It's only 50 dollars for a reflash for future mods so there is nothing to loose IMO.

Yes same model year and options will get the same, but are we comparing the same tuner for those? One might give you something, the other guy nothing. One might free up 10hp on LT1, but another be able to free up 15. That's what I was saying.
I could send something off to Ed Wright and he'd guarantee X hp, and I might not get squat on a dyno, and then PCMforless might guarantee the same and I get half of it.
But yes the stock tune is set up for all conditions, and there is a chance a custom one could give you something back in the driving rpm range. I dont know enough about computer tuning to say whether or not his bumping timing is costing you elsewhere.
