Default Tires for C$

I have to get at least two tires for the rear and need a set for my original '93 Ruby rims. It seems none of them wear all that long. Original Rims are 8.5" with stock 255 45 17 front and 9.5" rims rear with 285 40 17. I have Z06 rims that were on the car when I bought it. I don't really like them and would like 5 spoke rims that are more conservative looking. All four of those are 9.5" 17 rims with 275 40 17 front tires and 285 40 17 rear tires. My goal is for mileage and something reasonably priced if you can actually say that. Not really interested in tires that can go 160mph. I drive pretty much the speed limit and anything more than that blows my gas mileage.

So what brands/price range/quality/looks/tread pattern etc. do C4 owners reccomend?

Thanks.

I've had good luck with the Kumhos, I've got Falkens on the car now, I'd never get them again. Lousy wear, no grip, and bad in the rain.

I'd imagine they have em in your size, I run 255/50/16 the whole way around.

Bf Goodrich g-force sport. I love them, awesome dry traction, pretty quiet.

I give a third for the Kumhos. I'm tired of mine, but I need more traction. Otherwise they've been a great tire for the money. I'm stepping up to michelins.

Right about Falkens.
Falkens are the worst tire I've ever owned on ANY car. In the rain, you just don't try anything cute or you'll be around a pole

I have Firestone Wide Ovals. They are a little more money but grip very well and look good at that.

Sounds like those ghetto-assed Futura radials at Pep Boys. Had those on my car when I first purchased it. Dry traction was OK, but sucked cold, dead, rigor-mortised donkey ***** in the wet. They turned brick hard after about a year, too.

BF Gforce Sports are a good commuter and cruising tire.
BF KDW's are also a good tire for the money.

Check Toyo Proxies, knockoff of Eagle F-1 for half the price. Had them 3 years, no problems and they ride well since I have a very tight suspension.

I've had pretty good luck with Eagle F1's

They aren't cheap - but then you aren't driving a cheap car either...

Nexen 3000 for my 89 are $120 a piece. I've heard good things about them. And yes, I don't need to pay the extra $$ either for a 160mph tire.

I just had a set of Nitto NT555's installed on my car, 285/40-17. Price was $169.00 per tire installed. I believe the 275/40-17's were like $155.00 installed. They are a great tire, quite and very smooth. I replaced Goodyear 275/40-17 F1 D3 tires, they were shot after 25K miles.

Actually, I just went out and looked, and my Nexen N3000 tire is W rated. So, that's better than Z rated, which I believe Z rated tires is what was on the car from the factory. And they're AA traction rated.

Plus they look pretty cool.

My KDWSs have worn pretty fast. This is the all-weather variant that might be different from the KDW, but I wouldn't recommend them for tire wear (or wet-weather grip )

I've had the KDW's on several cars and loved the handling but hated the wear. I finally gave up and went with the Kumho Ecsta's and so far I love 'em. Great price too.

Liked the original Eagles. Replaced the rear tires last year with BFGoodrich G Force SuperSport. Put front ones on last Saturday. Cost in Nova Scotia Canada 210.00 per tire plus tax. Liked the rear, hopefully with them now matched up will be even better.

Since the Z06 wheels I have are all 9.5" rims and the '89-92's used that on all four with 275 40 17, maybe that would be a good choice so I could rotate front to rear and get more mileage out of them. I am leaning to the Kuhmo Ecsta ASX. I like the tread as it is more of a highway tread than performance. My current Firestone Firehawks on the front are fairly new and are 275's. I could put them on the rear to rotate them and the new ones on the front. Any input on that?
