I enjoy the hell out of driving my 01 C5. It definately is very nice, even with the loud exhaust. 
Probably only issue would be winter for you if you don't want to drive it in the snow.
I've been actually getting approx 18 city / 28-31 highway consistantly too.

Probably about the same as C4's
I bought mine with high mileage so there were some a few issues I had to take care of initially when I bought it. It will be just like any other car and C5's have their common issues just like the C4's do... Column Lock seems to be at the top of the list. Actually you can do a lot of searches in C5 Gen and find a lot out. I'm up to 133,000 miles on mine and it's been modded by the previous owner. There are a few that have over 300K miles.

I'd go into the C5 general and ask those questions. I know few that use the C5 as a daily driver, they get 32 MPG.
