Hey I have a question for you guys that are out in the East or West coast, is there any way that you can prevent rust from eating the car alive?
Thanks.
yup, I dont drive it in the ocean !! Seriously though, it's fiberglass, what's rusting!! The main reason our cars rust out up here is from road salt in the winter, not from the ocean breezes, unless you happen to be right on the water. I would think that in snowy Colorado you've got just as much of a problem with rusty cars from road salt as we do. My daily driver are an '01 Audi A6 and a '04 Chevy Venture. The Chevy is basically rusted from stem to stern unerneath, Chevy uses nothing under the car for protection; but the Audi looks new underneath; it's got a good layer of something under there.

Not even close. First of all, the area we live in is a high desert climate & veeeerrry dry, as in no humidity. The biggest snowfall we had here last year was 8" and that was considered allot! They use mag chloride on the roads here, and very little actual salt. Most of what is used on the streets is small granulated rock. I lived in New York for many years and trust me, I know what a rusty car looks like. Cars actually have little to no rust around here if theyve been here their whole existence.
I just dropped my 96 off at the dealer because of a leaking (rusted) fuel line. I don't drive it in the rain or snow but the vertical part of the line going to the top of the tank is rusted so the fuel lines need to be replaced. They're getting an estimate together now but have told me it's going to be very expensive to fix. They said that the lines have to be custom made and they will need the body shop there to take the back half of the car apart just to get the fuel tank out. I guess if it’s too expensive I’ll just have to try to do the work myself. Wish me luck!
