I can't get the hood open. Cable does not release on driver's side. I have the hood opening tool and have used it before successfully, but not luck this time.
Does anybody have a photo of the cable attachment to the release under the hood? I can't remember where the hole is! This is not an uncommon problem when you are over age 60 like me!
Do you crimp it at the sides of the wires, or on top? I'm guessing on top.
And since we are in the general area. What do you guys use to seal the crack inbetween the hood seal and cowl? I need to do that first as I'm thinking of pulling the hood seal, clean up the old goop, bolt it back on and reseal it. Or I may just clean up what I can, leave the hood seal in place, and reseal it.
You can use a block and a hammer and chisel or a crimper. If you are gentle, you can use your wiring pliers, but be careful not to cut through the ferrel.

Thanks. Do you by any chance know of what to use to reseal the seam inbetween the hood seal and cowl? I get water leaking into the engine bay, so I need to reseal the hood seal. But I only want to do it once.
I had thought about pulling it and cleaning up all the old crap, but I don't know if I want to do that as I've got alot of other stuff going on. I may just wipe it down real good, and run a bead of sealant.
Most of what they have at Autozone is gasket making stuff. I did see a tube of Permatex adhesive sealant. And then there is the Permatex Right Stuff that gets good reviews, but I think that is used to make gaskets with instead of sealing up a seam to make it water proof.

I plan on doing that after I reseal the hood seal. I may pull it off to clean up all the gunk before I seal it.
Anyways, how do you crimp the Ferrel I believe it is called? I've got a regular butt connector crimper. Do you put the wire in both slots, then crimp?
Suggestion: Looks like your latches etc. need grease pretty bad. This will multiply pressure required to open the hood and put exessive force requirements on the release cables. IMO.
i have worked with cable for over 30 years so a word of advise....
in the industry the cable sleeves are typically called nicopress fittings. generic like klenex for tissue. to ensure that you properly seat the fitting you need to use the correct tool. these tools are properly sized for different sized fittings to ensure proper, secure and complete compression of the fitting around the cable. while the other methods can work, you do run the risk of over or under compressing the fitting which in time can cause the cable to break or slip out of the fitting when you go to pull it after. so be sure to test it vigurously. sitting there under the hood getting wet or crimed or whatever else happens for months or even years might surprise you when you go to pull that cable when you need it most. the cost of a compression tool at home depot isnt that much.
