That's pimpolisious right there. Why paint the new body work when it already comes matt black. HAAAHAHAAHAAA
They probably spent too much time/money getting the new panels to line up and just want to get rid of it and let someone else fork the bill to paint it.
Here's the part I don't get...If the guy really wanted a C5 look, by the time he bought the kit, had it installed, then got the l98 engine. Then let's say he planned on keeping it. Installed the engine, did the paint, and finished it up... For all of that work and money, plus just selling the C4 outright, stock. He could of used all of that money and just bought a nice C5 outright, and had the LS1 to boot.
This just makes absolutely no sense to me...But then I guess one can't reason with insanity.
OK, as the car stands now, its ugly. But for the price, I see potential. Providing what is stated in the auction is true, and who would lie, right, the work is already done for someone who has a taste for this sort of thing. A Jasper engine for this car is at least $2500, a rebuild on a tranny is $1500, that body kit is about $700 from Crowder's (w/o the shipping). The big issue is having someone install the engine and tranny and you pray the engine has no problems. If all is cool, you sell the original engine and tranny and recoup some money. Depending on what the remainder of the body and interior look like, its a just a paint job away from being a nice car. Its a project car no matter how look at it, but its one that is almost finished. I'll probably get flamed for this, but hey, its a free country, I think.

I think that it has potential too. Those C5 rear bumpers must be exact clones huh?

I agree that this car has potential. With a little skilled craftsmanship and TLC, yes, it could be a nice car. It would draw a little attention at a show, perhaps take home a trophy in a modified class, if done right. This would be a great buy for someone with either the skill or the connections.
My point is this. Why spend all of this money on the C5 conversion, motor, etc. When he could have added that cash to what he could have gotten just selling the C4 and bought a C5. Newer technology and the styling he obviously likes?
My bet is that he had the car for a while, and just got caught up in "mod fever". A little mod here, a little there, and next thing you know you've gone and done it. You've nickled and dimed away the money you could have used to get what you really want. Beyond the point of no return so to speak.(I can relate to this) I don't know, just trying to make sense of it. But you're right, it is a free country. It's his money, his car, and my opinion doesn't mean jack squat at the end of the day. More power to him.
The thing is it would have to be nearly FREE and you would have to have the skill set and lots of time to waste though as a 97-99 C5 vert ain't worth much. A Frankenstein version is worth alot less. It's a C5 missing the two best things about that generation the LSX and the hydroformed frame.
