Trans fluid

Want to change auto trans fluid. The manual says to use Dextron ll. The auto parts store says to use Dextron Vl. Can anyone clarify this?
Would appreciate any help.

Dexron-VI

DEXRON(R)-VI was introduced in 2005. It was designed to replace all prior specifications, and is therefore backwards-compatible with applications calling for DEXRON(R) of any type.

Never heard of the Dexron you described. When I changed the fluid in my '93, I'm almost certain I used Dexron III fluid with no problems.

I just changed my fluid on my 95 and I used dexron VI castrol synthetic.

Did you evacuate all of the fluid or just drop the pan? I'm guessing that it's not preferred to mix synthetic with older fluid. Does anyone know if doing this would actually create problems?
