Hey Calder. That clip mounts on the end of the arm/lever that moves to free the hood latch bolt. The very terminating end of the release cable is held to this lever by that clip.

Hope that helps!

wow...it was a real pain to install this cable
i can't make it work ok,everything is working ok without the handle
but the cables seems too short for the handle.....i spent a lot of time
trying to make them right !

Make sure you're attaching the cable to the handle first, then complete the connection at the retainer clip. Then you can use the cable adjuster to tighten it all back up.

Wish I could help you with pics. My camera has the old SD card format and my card finally failed on me and nobody carries them locally.

If I can get a new card soon, I'll have pics.

I dont want to hijack but where did you get the kit from? In the spring Im going to change my cables, but the kit I looked at doesnt include the retaining clips like you have pictured. I actually need the clips now, they kind of split. Im driving on borrowed time, but the cars away for the winter.

watch out Jon because if they do , you'll have a bad headache, first of all
Buy emergency cables, then you can breath safe and you can buy everything at slow pace. Its not a complete kit.
I bought them at Midamerica, i bought the cables , which are installed
then i bought the retainers, which goes for $7 each
Everything is here :

But PLEEEAHHSE ...Buy this first

Thanks. Just went to my garage to see how they are installed on my 86. The 2 "small horns" go facing the front of the car. There is actually a place for the points to go into.

That open end area you see here,(the top of the retainer), should face the windshield

Oh cool ,but which springs ?
The springs that attach to the underside of the hood. They are heavy duty and allow the hood to "pop" open when you pull the release handle.

Theres actually a left and a right. If you look closely on the side of the retainer, towards the top, where its folded over itself, there is a small point. Its only on one side and not the other.

Don't think so,i have them right here, both are identical ,they look different on the picture because they are facing different directions
