Like to purchase a hatch vent for my 94 coupe. Can you in fact drive with these in place or strickly park to release heat from inside. There is also a quick release available. Has anyone used either of these? did they help?
You can drive with it in place. They do a lot to stop the buffeting you get driving with the targa top off. Don't use it with the top on and the windows rolled up. A good chance of sucking in exhaust fumes that way.
I have the non-quick release and when I use it the exhaust sounds louder (series 51 FlowMaster Cat Back) and I hear a lot more rattles. But the air flow is better. They are cheap enough to try to see if it works for you.
Many of the after market corvette parts performance etc are gimmicks to suck $$$ out of you wallet. I paid (I think( around $25 for it from one of the usual corvette vendots (CC, Ecklers or Mid-A). The steel piece bolts right over the present latch and securely clicks into place. I ride with it without any problems and with the windows down you can really feel the air move through the compartment much more than when it it's not in place. You attach it with your roof panel torex tool or facsmile.
I have one of the quick release ones and I have to say I have generally NOT had good luck using this. One time the hatch popped open while I was driving, other times it caused problems with the sensor within the latch mechanism so that my inside lights would go on suddenly while I was driving.
Maybe it is just that the quick release one does not work as well as the other types but, needless to say, I do not use anymore since the problems it caused were not worth the trouble.
This is the one I have, it's in all summer long. LOVE IT! Probably best mod I have. Radio sounds better as the wind doesn't screw with speakers and you don't get alot of wind turbulence throughout cockpit with the windows down. Takes me about 20 seconds to put in and out. Looks great with the rear window up a little too! GET ONE FOR SURE, YOU WILL NOT REGRET!
One thing I did do was I unplugged the light switch so I don't have to mess with the magnetic piece they give you to keep light off. I don't need the interior lights to go on when I open the hatch anyway, so why deal with that, not a big deal at all...

This is the reason that I have not purchased one, I thought it might cause a problem like that. Maybe its the brand. What brand did you have?

I believe it might be called "Ventmaster" but I will have to take a look. At the time I bought it from Ecklers, they were only offering 2 types--the quick twist-install one (the one I have) and the one you need to spend a minute to attach.
