probably got some crappy gas,,,,,,i got a batch a few weeks ago,,made my car run crappy till i added some octane boster,,,g#d damm corn juice blended tree hugging crap that costs 2.50 a gallon,,,,,,,,sorry all
Most of the octane boosters will not foul your engine. The big problem is that you have to add so much of it to the gas to get a real boost that it just doesn't pay. Oh, and it does not have the same power per gram. You get higher octane at the cost of lower energy for a given amount of fuel.
The only practical solution is to get racing fuel and mix it to get the octane you need. The problem here is the cost and the "off road use only" fuel. Get caught with it in the tank and pay a big fine. You can also mix in 115/145 avgas with the same boost and tax problems.
BP and a couple of other gas stations do sell 98 octane pump gas but it is not widely available. There are no 98 octane gas outlets in my area.
I've been driving the car around for the last three days and can not get it to ping. Engine temps have been running normal to warm (185~200). Seems like the Purple Ice did the trick.
.....but reality won't budge.

But hey, don't argue with success. If you've got it to stop sounding like it's crushing marbles, more power to you (no pun intended). I knew you'd have it fixed by the time I got back in town.
If you have the superchip......I would suggest that you remove it and put the stock chip back in. The chip will not add HP...at most it might turn on the fan early.
Years ago I put a Hypertech chip in my 85.....promises of 50 HP and other things. I then fought the PING for about 2 years. Tried different brands of fuel, moved from regular to premium, played with distributor settings....octane boost...etc. It would come and go. When I had the car dyno tuned and a custom chip burned for it we discovered that the setting on the chip were advancing the distributor to 43 degrees (normal would be a max of about 34) and it was REDUCING fuel....no wonder it would PING. Never had a problem with the custom chip.
im having the same problem pinging at high rpm. i also have a superchip but never ping before 1985 corvettte l98

Evidently you didn't read any of the rules,( like the one posted) we have rules on here for a reason. Nothing worse then reading through an entire thread only to find out it' 4 years old....Since you only have 1 post on this forum maybe you should give the forum rules a look.....WW
