Sent my 87 coupe out for a motor rebuild. The shop pulled the motor and rebuilt it. They took it .030 over for the cylinders and added high compression pistons. Got it back today. The mechanic said some of the vacuum lines were routed wrong.
Overall its running smoother then before. The shop said to baby the engine for 500 miles then change the oil and use dino oil for the first oil change. Other then leaks is there anything I should watch for?
Took the car for a ride last night. Watched the oil pressure and temp. It went up to 210 degrees by the time I pulled into the driveway. This morning I noticed coolant under the water pump area. Tonight I got home from work, topped off the coolant about 4 oz. Went to back it out for a short ride and the coolant was leaking good. Time to call the shop.
cuisinartvette is asking about the hole in the water pump to see if the coolant is leaking from this area. IF so, they you need to replace the pump. I would suggest that you check out the FlowKooler water pump carried by Summit. I installed one on my new ZZ4 short block and it is supposed to circulate 30% more than a standard pump. I can tell you that the car runs about 15 degrees cooler than it used to.
Not trying to be questioning any thing with your build but why would they install the old water pump on a new motor? This makes no sense to me at all
If they installed a new motor with a old pump I would question the installation. Maybe it's a new or rebuilt pump that was bad out of the box. I would hope that would be the case. Hope they fix this with no hassle. Good luck

Rebuilt motor and new water pump. It didnt leave a trail of coolant up the driveway yesterday after the test drive. Too dark outside to work on the car tonight. The shop is 2 miles from the house.
have them go over all the hoses. after the first couple warmups, the hoses get soft with the heat and take a set under the clamps. Then you have to tighten all the clamps a little.
Haven't had time to get a tow truck to take the car up to the shop. I did go out and start it up, back it out of the garage and look for leaks. I found another leak, the fuel line is also leaking at the return line connector. I pulled the FP fuse and waited for the gas to evap and pushed it back into the garage. It's going to the shop first thing Monday morning.
coupeguy2001 has a good point. Many times its the little stuff after a rebuild that needs your attention after a few heat cycles, this is normal.
Onthe fuel line its probably the little oring inside, not a big deal.
Had the car towed up to the shop. The AAA driver didnt know where to hook the chains to. I had to show him the eyelets on the frame, lol. The shop checked the car and replaced the heater hose clamp on the waterpump and then replaced the two O rings on the fuel lines where it connects to the fuel rails. Drove the car 5 miles, no leaks. I'll keep watching.
