Hello to all,
my mechanic gave me a couple of A4 sheets with the photo of a vette that is for sale by a friend of his. I just coudln't match the body to any other standard production model on the net, and have turned to this forum for clarification. Please help me identify the model year and the sales price of this car.
n.b.The seller claims to have a certificate that says the the car is unique or of a very rare production line. http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/836...9080515010.jpg http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/3...9080515011.jpg
If you can get a VIN number, then call the Ntl Corvette Museum and get a build sheet and sticker. Those will tell you what it was when it was built and came off the line.

This Vette is a complete custom that was built in a shop, not St. Louis. Almost every body panel on it is aftermarket. The only body parts that look factory are the doors & rear bumper. No C3 EVER came with the fender flares on this thing. It looks like a '78 or '79, and if you get the VIN I can tell you exactly what year & month it was built.
I would LOVE to hear what the "certificate" says on this. This Vette might be unique, but I guarantee you that no rare production line was involved........

C'mon guys. I know that nobody really thinks that St Louis ever built this Ecklers custom panel creation?
It's an 82 with a body kit; nothing rare about it at all; just custom. If I took a dump on shingle and stapled it to the roof of my car-would it also be rare? I love how these sellers are always trying to pass off custom cars as some rare factory one-off!
Its a 78 or 79 (due to bubble back rear glass) with a 80-82 front clip.
Front bumper is 80-82.
Rear bumper is 78-79....the brake light design changed after 79.
Horn button emblem is 78-79.
Nose and fuel cap emblems are correct for 78-79.
Front fenders could be almost any year from 76 up, as the inserts can be added, but the side lamps would indicate 80-82.
Hood is a L88 hood....not even offered in mid to late 70's.
Side pipes are cheap Patriots.
I think the picnic table wing is from a Toyota or Honda....but I am probably wrong on that

All 78's had a round emblem with a designation for the 25th Anniversary of Corvette. The crossed flags came back in '79.
Also, the large rear glass started in '78 and was reatined through the '82 model year. The 82 rear glass opened; prior years were fixed in place.
The interior pic that shows the shifter location doesn't look right. My 78 L82 4-speed car had the shifter coming out of the left side of the console right in front of the left side power window switch. The shifter in the pic looks to be almost a foot too far forward. It should not be just behind the A/C controls. Also the position of the driver's door powere lock switch makes it a 78-79 car. The 80-02 cars had that switch further forward.
You can determine the model year by looking at the VIN tag which is visible at the lower left corner of the windshield. Up through 1980, the year designation was the 6th character of the VIN. For 1978 it was an 8. For 1979 it was 9. For 1980 it was the letter A. Starting in 1981, the year designation moved to the 10th digit. So a 1981 car will have a letter B and an 1982 car will have a letter C for the 10th character.
Whatever year it is, it's nothing more than a really bad shopping trip through some catalogs.

Vents are '80-'82 but the rear bumper is '75-'79. Usually with these creations the builder keeps the original rear end & then seems to go nuts from there........
