Buick Brakes
I just read a question to the Tech Nerd in the Sept 2009 issue of Corvette Magezine, asking why a lot of C4 owners were changing their brakes to Buick capilers & rotors. The response was that he (TN) was not aware of anyone doing this. I've never heard of anyone doing this either but since this forum represents a very large cross section of C4 owners I figured if anyone had in fact done this swap, someone here would know about it.
So... has anyone done it and if so why?

Just off the top of my head, there are basically only two factors involved in brake efficiency:
1) clamping force (Caliper)
2) friction materials (pads & rotors)
While there are lots of things that can effect these two items, I can't see where Buick would have an advantage over the multi-piston Vette caliper or basic rotor design.
Factory C4 brakes are a little anemic IMHO, but adequate. From reading the experiences of others and talking to owners at various venues, it seems that the only way to gain any significant results requires a fair amount of cash; either after market designs or going to the larger factory C5 calipers, rotors and appropriately sized wheels.
There may be a larger Buick design that could be retro-fitted to the C4, but I would want a lot more information before I would be willing to take that chance.
Man if some one brought back that kind of styling, in a new way, I'd be all over it. I love the classic curvy swooping body styles. Why can't we have that anymore?
