I have a 1991 Convertible that freaks out when it rains and starts flashing the lights inside because there's a "door ajar."
Maybe one day I'll own a C6...when the lastest generation is a C9.
Why are you driving it in the rain? I once lost my t-tops, cause I put them away in the garage someplace and forgot where I put them. LOL
And to Relic. I think that if it was just a car to you then you would have the more valuable Camry in the garage. It is just a car to most people but I think that the hobbiest sees it as more. Or I would have just kept the Yukon as the "extra vehicle". I think most that keep them as toys/hobbys see them as more and in doing so take a little better care of them then your "average" driver. Trust me, the previous owner was a typical, "just a car" person and the car suffered.
And your Camry will lose value, albiet not as quick as a Jaguar---LOL The C4 has pretty much bottomed out.
Bought a C5 new in 2000 and very few problems. I still have the C5 but it now has a brother ( C4 ). I love them both. Entirely different vehicles that's what makes them so nice

....had my 96 for 4 years and then bought an 04....the only problem i've had with the C4 is a water pump replacement and the only problem with the C5 was the oil pressure sending unit went bad...
both great cars...i just have a tough time deciding which one to drive when i step outside.....
Kept my C4 when we bought the C6 last May. I tried to sell it but only got low balled. The C4 Ruby still looks like a work of art even next to the C6. Don't get me wrong the C6 is awesome, fast smooth and dependable. But I spent so much time working on the C4 its like we have bonded and it is still a ton of fun to drive.
WOW you are the only one I have ever heard that from.
People who buy Corvettes tend to be less than totally honest about QUALITY. They tend to overlook the crap they put up with, because it is such a popular car. The truth is, many of these cars are not so good! It's a plastic Chevy - it's not the best car ever built. Some models are just not meant to be 40 year old collector items, like the '67 for example. Just my opinion - I've been buying these things since 1973, and I've learned that some are just better than others. And some of them are just awefull.

You are right, however, nobody really makes a car in this class, especially one that can be bought used cheap, so I assume that is why we all live with the little issues. I wouldnt shell out the cash for a new one ever, but used they are a value in my opinion.
Guess you could say I moved up when I bought my 2008 Vette. I love the C6, it's awesome, and it's becoming my favorite.
With that said, I kinda miss the C4. I miss the raw brute power (especially the low end). I miss it's "quirks".
Anyone else have a C4 and C6?
I did.
I STARTED w/a C6 as my first Corvette; bought it new in '06 and have owned it for 3-1/2 years.
I bought a '92 at the beginning of this summer as a repairable. I reparied it (had the wrong key), and have driven it almost every day since. I sold the C6 about 3 weeks ago and don't miss it at all.

the 08' c6 is a different animal than even the earlier c6 (05'-07'). the LS3 is an engine that most local shops seem to LOVE! They tell me that it's an incredible platform to start with (we'll leave this argument to the c5/c6 forum members though).
The c6z is a "dream car" of sorts for me, but I've read these types of theads so many times that I am kind of shying away from the new vette's myself.
I too have the argument if a car payment is really worth it. In this unstable economy, no thanks!

I like the lines on the C4 best but prefer the LS engine. So maybe instead of buying a C5 maybe I will pick up a rare color C4 vert and shove an LS6 in it.
I will own a C4 until the day I die. I spit on all C5 and C6 vettes.
C4
C5 to camry
C6 the lights don't flip up, whats up with that crap, cheap crap and they will probably go yellow after a while and I hear moaster gets in them and shorts them out and you have no lights

Rockin a C4 forever
I will own a C4 also. I would like to find a nice ZR1. I may go to a C5 one day, I won't say I never will but I would rather take that money and get that ZR1.

tell us how you "really" feel! lol...
the c5/c6 platforms are not always about looks. I am not too particular about the looks either, but the technology is there (in structural rigidity, and drivetrain). I think this would be the main reason why I'd consider the new platforms. Easier to lay the power down, easier to make the power, huge aftermrket support, easier to tune with stock computer (no standalone needed)... etc. Otherwise, the c4 is definitely more my type of corvette.

If you're talking launching, that's not true. The C6 wheel hops something fierce. It's ridiculous. Add the goofy, grabby, over-center clutch action, throw in some Torque Management and it makes optimally launching the C6 a real art form; dam near impossible. Launching a C4, by comparison is easy.

All I say is; "live" with one for a few days before you buy one, if possible. It is SO different than a C4. You might like it...you might not. I did not... and that was after I spent three years trying to convince myself that I loved it.
The differences between the "early" and "late" C6's are negligible. If you are like me, and you don't have a "relationship" w/the C6...you aren't going to have a relationship w/ANY C6, I would bet. They all have very similar "Character"...they just produce different numbers.

you're probably right. It "looks" great on paper though!
At this point, I am in no rush and I have no intensions of purchasing a c6... so the c4 will "have to do" lol
