Default Shift Button Question

When I bought my 91 in June, I noticed that the button for my shifter was a little different than what I had seen on other peoples' - lower and indented. While tearing my car apart for my stereo install I found the missing button. Now that I'm putting everything back together, I'm wondering how this button actually stays on since it'll work its way off if I slap the shifter around. Here are a few pics (cell phone, sorry). Am I missing something?

Also - the tabs on the L shaped trim at top of the pillars behind the door of my vert are broken. Any idea where I can get new pieces? I think I've seen them somewhere but IIRC they required painting to match my red interior. I'd also like the other plastic trim piece below those...

Thanks for setting me straight. Works fine as is and I'm used to it this way. A side project of mine is getting a small cnc mill going, when that comes together maybe I'll try putting together a custom ****

you can still order a new button. otoh, a drop of superglue on the two halves of the button may work wonders and feel like new.
