I plan on replacing the power antenna on my 1984 corvette. The mast looks slightly bent, but hardly noticeable unless you look directly down on it. The antenna itself will only go down about half way, therefore it is stuck open at all times. It is unplugged right now from the CD player. Last time I hooked it up, the only noise I heard was a small click.
My main questions are:
-Has anyone tackled this project before?
-Pictures?
-Advice?
-Should I replace the whole unit or just the cable?
I have a Hanes booklet, but their description of the process is uninformative.
I just ordered a new one from thepartsladi on ebay. Our "new to us" 86 came with a full staff antenna. The other night I looked it over and found the previous owner had cut the wires going into the antenna motor. After hooking them back up my guess proved correct. The motor runs constantly with no movement of the antenna at all. There are kits you can buy to fix the problem but I decided that replacing the entire unit was the way to go. Between working from under the car to getting to it from the wheel well I am not expecting the job to be too bad. Running the new cable will probably be the biggest pita.
Has anyone had any luck splicing the coax antenna cable?
The new delco power antenna just arrived. I am happy now since it looks like the cable evidently plugs into the antenna so I won't have to run the cable all the way to the radio or try to splice it. It looks pretty straight forward. Can't wait for my wife to get home so I can get it done.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
First turn on radio and let the last open fully. Put several drops of trans fluid where the antenna joints are. It may just operate correctly there after. Mine has been for over a year after doing this.
