Hood ALignment/'96 CE
I am "resurrecting" my '96 CE. Have installed a donor hood and spent the better part of the weekend working on alignment. I have pretty much aligned the cowl end with the cowl with maximum hinge adjustment to the drivers side and maximum hinge adjustment to the front. The bumper is aligned with the front end of the hood(although I need to move the bumper out another thick spacer on both sides). The curvature of the driver side of the hood seems to agree well with the curvature of the door and the locator pin fits right into the guide. With the "point" at the top end of the hood on the passenger side aligned with the top corner of the passenger door, the curvature on the passenger side of the hood does not agree with the door resulting in a 3/8"-1/2" misalignment around the curve to the bottom of the hood. The hood can be forced into alignment slipping slip the locator pin into place. I don't like the stress in the side of the hood so I didn't leave it in the forced position. Can I use a heat lamp or hot air gun to "relax" FRP to help it settle into a more correct alignment w/o damaging the FRP?
