I was thinking the other day, how nice it was I have a Chevy 350 and I wondered are all the 350 blocks the same? Is anything different over the years or with my 1984?
all were mostly the same from 68-91. some were two bolt main blocks some were 4 bolt mains. in the mid 80's I think they started to cast them in Mexico
Externally no ; internally yes.
If dealing with the late ,large journal engines (>'69),
80 - 85 got the dipstick on pass side , a change was made in '87 to a 1 pce seal crank and roller lifters in most car engines. Most GenI parts will swap '69 - '00 except crank as noted.
2 or 4 bolt mains depending on original application
LT1 is a stand alone block; heads only fit a LT1

This is a 500 hp LT5, a fully ported variant of the stock 375 hp factory version. A special "clean sheet" project engine. Virtually everything was different except the center to center dimensions of the bores (the same as for the SBC). Available to the public from 90-95, it is (to date) the only DOHC Chevy V8 ever put in a Vette.
(Sorry... I couldn't resist!)
Just why the 96 GS draws more $$ at auction for essentially a paint job, some "bolt-on" flares, and a VIN over the ZR-1 is a mystery of the ages! Go figure!
