I'm not understanding this very good. I assume this is an automatic transmission because you mention overdrive, but then you say the clutch is good, what clutch are you referring to? also O/D will have absolutely no effect to your reverse at all.
If you hear weezing then your tranny is slipping, try checking the fluid see that it's on the full mark and not discolored also smell it, if it smells burnt then your tranny is giving up.

Early C4's (1984-1988) had the Doug Nash 4+3 transmission.
Borg Warner ST10 manual gear box with a Doug Nash overdrive unit mounted on the rear of the transmission.
Yes all the forward gears work fin
Any idea how to fix it?
6 speed transmission or something like that?
forward gears work while reverse slips = o/d friction discs worn out...'sprag' inside the o/d is providing coupling for forward gears but not in reverse rotation by design...highly likely there are no 'floaties' inside the o/d and probly could drive long if careful to avoid need for reversing.
several ways to fix...'rebuild' of o/d unit with new friction discs/gaskets/etc is most common...not a complicated procedure but new parts must be purchased...'spring loading' of 'direct' (non-overdrive) section requires close attention to prevent personal injury/poor op after rebuild, otherwise NOT 'brain surgery", but shops with experience with this unit are limited...follow the Service Manual if DIY.
6-speed conversion using vette/camo oem transmissions is NOT a simple bolt-in, gives little increase in durability, effectively just adds a 'second higher o/d ' than is of little use (other than passing oem emissions/'cafe' lab tests)...aftermarket transmissions are expensive and have very limited service/repair available.
It's been awhile since this happened to me, (10 years) and I believe that when this happens, something let go that is held in place by the case, which means that your OD is no longer serviceable. There is a place that specializes in the rebuild of these units, they even have a website that may answer all of your questions. I know it has changed hands since I have been there, I would do a google search. SK speed? I found a 88 unit for my 85 on ebay for less than 500 bucks and it has performed flawlessly. The later units were much improved over the 84-85 ones. This is a cheaper option compared to aftermarket.....even a rebuilt Nash exchange is only about 1200 bucks. These pop up occasionally on the for "sale section" of this forum, also.
