smells result when unburned gasoline vapors react with chemicals in the catalytic converter, air/fuel mixture is too rich w/c sometimes is caused by clogged air filter. So you might want to check your air filter first. Replace it when needed. If the filter is clean, another possibility is the fuel injection system - if car has one; one of the system's sensors might have gone bad..

Did you look at your intake manifold? I had brush, twigs and all kinds of crap bult up in my 89 l98. i mentioned this to my neighbor one day and he told me mice were probably building a nest in there because it was warm Sounded crazy to me but something built that nest!!!
