Default Paint chip

I just chipped about a dime size piece of paint off my driver's side mirror.

Is this a simple touch-up or will it need a little body-filler. The chip goes clear down to the substrate.

Has anybody done this touch-up repair?

I have but nothing that big. If it is the size of a dime, touching it up will only hide the chip but it will still stick out like a sore thumb. I have had luck with Lanka products. They use a blob paint and removal technique. Good for small chips. Metallic paint is hard to do. If your car is in nice condion, take it to a trusted body shop and asked them for a quote. Since you are asking here, I assume you have pride in your car. So slapping on some touch up paint will not make you happy.

You will always be able to tell. You can have someone air brush it or just repaint mirror or if on a budget......

They key is to use as little paint as possible. Using a qtip or toothpick, fill in the chip slowly, don't blob the paint in there. Even if it takes you several days to get full coverage on the chip. Keep building up the paint day after day. You can then wet sand it lightly and then buff it with meguires to take out the fine scratches from sanding. If done properly it will be 90% better. Good luck

Default Your vette

How much do you like your vette? Why not remove the mirror and take it to a body shop and let a proffessional paint it. If you do a goober job on it, every time you look at that mirror it will stare back at you.

Good Luck

You can buy a set of mirror covers. But if you're like me I'll know what's under there and it'll bug you till you fix it.
