Hey everyone, I get occasional vibration in my steering once I hit roughly 70 mph, its not all the time. Sometimes when i hit a rough patch of asphalt on the highway. At first I was considering the alignment was off, but the car drives pretty straight, does not veer off to the right or left. The vibration is a bit much sometimes, but at other times there is no vibration at all. Do you think it could be something in the suspension?
Any advice or recommendations are appreciated. Thanks
I get a similar vibration. I had a couple of hours on the freeway yesterday and it would come and go with different road surfaces. On brand new concrete it would vibrate and on asphalt it wouldn't (74 mph). My friend who was along for the ride suggested that wide, low profile tires might magnify any oscillation in the road surface...I dunno
Alot of times it's just bad balance. I had my new tires balanced where I bought them and found that they were off by 4 oz. on both fronts. Find someone who has the Hunter balancer and try that. Also not bad to take it in for alignment and have the front end checked out. My vibration occured at higher speeds also.
I went through about the same thing last spring. It was more or less occassional at 70 but more predictable at higher speeds. I bought new front tires and had a 4 wheel align done when I had them put on. The alignment was off enough that one of the fronts had started to seperate at one spot. The weird thing was that the car "appeared" to drive fairly straight. I am glad I got those tires when I did because that one tire was ready to blow at any minute. I suggest having the alignment and balance checked. Consider also the age of your tire.

I am 99% sure the problem is the tires. Get them balanced and check your rims to make sure they are good. I had the same problem then I swaped the wheels and the problem was gone. It was kind of strange that the vibration would come and go, so I used to think the same way you are thinking (something bent or broken on the suspension) especially if you have Goodyear tires (some of them suck)
