I would pull one of the plugs to inspect it. That should give you an indication of whether they've ever been changed. If they're bad, change them and the wires. If you also have 'missing' under engine load, then these are likely culprits.
There are a lot of things that can affect your idle, a vacumm leak being one of them, and a dirty/defective Idle Air Control (IAC) unit being another. Both of those would cause your idle to be inconsistent.
