Default Question about 85 Vettes

Well right now I own a 93 LT1 Z28 as my summer toy but Im looking to swap for a C4. I was doing some online research while looking at C4's and I noticed that the 85 Vette has a faster 0-60 time and faster quarter mile time than the 86,87,88,89 and 90 Vettes?
5.7 seconds 0-60 and 14.1 quarter mile. The 91 Vette finally beats out the 85. This of course not counting ZR1's or Callaways.
Now how is this possible? I mean, how can an 85 be faster than like an 88 for example? Im of course talking stock form here.

Heck the 85 is slightly faster than a stock 93 LT1 Z28(5.8-14.4). Althoug the right air intake, headers, exhaust gets a Z28 close to a 93 LT1 Vette (5.3-13.9).

I believe the weight of the cars went up every year as more gizmos were added......

That would make sense. I see you have an 85. What are the major issues to look for when looking at an 85?

That is interesting considering while the weight may have went up in other places with the later years, weight was taken away via the aluminum heads as well as power increases. I think the later years are just as fast if not faster slightly.

BUT because I also have an 85, I too will say your assumption about it being faster is correct. Must be that one year only burn off module made of pure gold behind the dash.

the burnoff module for the MAF is different than later years with the easy to replace relays. i replaced my BOM and it was stupid. lucked out and got one for free otherwise they are expensive.

iron heads that flow like crap (these went to mid 86)

cat is different than other years, a lot of the aftermarket exhaust systems are 86-96

Note that the 5.7/14.1 times are with the automatic. The manual was slower 6.0/14.4. What were the later Corvettes tested with?

Good question. Maybe the later years only published the manual 0-60 and quarter mile times.

Well...that is a loaded question. The good....engine all Gen 1 swappable, last year of forged pistons. Any gen 1 block is interchangeable. 1 piece regular ol flywheel if you have man trans. No opti. No VATS. Old school and simple and easily modified. Bad *** suspension (stiff) if you have a Z51. Each year was softer than the previous. The bad.....flat tappet cam. Very expensive for retrofit roller cam. They were still working the bugs out of the C4 in 85, each year was a improvement in quality (and complication). The 4+3 was still problematic in 85 (I have a 88 overdrive in mine). Some say the wiring is bad in the early cars, though I have had no problem with mine (yet). The ugly.... I hated the stock wheels on the early years. I like the early interiors, especially the digital dash. The TPI motor looks cooler than the LT1. Some see the strengths I have mentioned as weaknesses and vise versa. I love the 4+3 as an example. All is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
