Got a 96' with 176,000 miles....been to a dealership only once. For a oil change, it was tramatic, expensive and very time consuming and never went back.

Great lesson learned...NEVER go to a dealership!

I did order all of the parts myself including buying the coolant and the work was done by a GM Master Tech who works at a small shop now.

I did the above including hose's not mentioned, and rebuilt the radiator, cleaned the A/C coil, and recharged the A/C for $1000.00

West coast of Florida. The work was done by a mechanic that I worked with at a GM dealership a few years back. Small shops are great if you find the right one? Some of the small independent "Corvette Specialists" are just as bad, if not worse than a dealership. I had a bad experience with the rear diff. when I had my '92 coupe, never been back there again! Parts: I ordered most of the parts from Zip products.

Like "Hunt & Knight Automotive" in Louisville. They pride themselves on being Corvette "specialists," but they're really just a lot of (over-priced) name. I won't let them work on my car again.

I bet those places are more expensive too. Just like a specialty car audio, or TV electronic store. You pay more cause they are a specialty shop.
