Default CCM Problem?

I have a 90 L98. My fuel guage is dead, reads absolutly Empty and shows "reserve". I went through the diagnostic routine in section 8A page 8A-82-15 of the service manual for "gage always displays empty" and the result was to replace the CCM. But I can't believe this would be the case as I am not getting any "SYS" light, and from what I read on this forum, the CCM almost never goes bad and everything else on the dash works fine. What do you guys think? Shuold I replace the CCM?

Welcome to the C4 fuel gauge don't read problem group. Nothing rare. Read all about the situation in the 'Search' at the top of the forum. Hopefully you can find a solution to your situation. It usually turns out to be the sender within the tank but don't quote me. Good luck.

Thanks, but It does not seem to be sending unit as when I unplug the connector I do not get a "full" reading on the gage, therefore according to the diagnostic, it would not indicate a bad sending unit.

Ok, does it show full when you first turn the key on and the pre-start diagnostic is performed?

I do believe it does show full when the key is first turned on and it goes through the pre-start diagnostic.
