Default Auto Dimming Mirror

Hey, does anyone have an auto dimming mirror in their Vette? If so, how does it work, and what company did you use... Im looking for one that looks relatively stock and has the map lights... Is it easy to install? Whats involved?

Any pics would be great !

I did a search on the forum but there were only a few pics and the install process wasnt specific enough...

Thanks!

I plan on doing this mod real soon. I have a spare from my 1995 Impala and it appears to be the same size as the one in the 1995 Vette. The windshield mount looks to be the same from the outside of the windshield. (I drew a template). I believe all it would need is +12 volts, ground and a voltage from your backup light circuit. The Impy mirror goes all normal in reverse regardless of ambient or reflected light. I would lose my red ambient lighting unless I put a LED and a resistor in the mirror. I may do that. As low as the Vette sits, it seems that a dimming mirror would be a good idea. Good luck.

Same... My 92 Deville had it and it was soooooo nice! Never had to touch the mirror when someone has their brights on behind you!

The Vette Mirror mounts above the windshield... It may be a little different? I have to take a look. Let me know how it goes... I hate driving at night when anyone with a car taller than the Vette drives behind you it gets the light right in your eyes...

As for the ambient lighting feature, that is why Im hesitant...

Make sure you let me know how it goes... Maybe take some pics of the install! Thanks!

I bought a Gentex auto dimming mirror with compass and lights. You can easily mount it to your winshield. The best money i ever spent.

Just use existing wires from your old mirror to wire the Gentex mirror in. Might be a little more difficult if you don't have a existing mirror with lights.

I have one stock from the factory in my `06 Mercury Milan. The problem is it depends on what kind of lights are behind you that will make the mirror dim down. it don`t work with all the HID lights that are on the newer cars, & when that happens you have no alternative except to push the entire mirror off to the side. Personaly, I like the old manual flip type.

Ever since I put Limo tint on the hatch, I haven't even looked at the mirror, odd.

I have one of those in my Grand Am, absolutely love it... with a 3" drop, every SUV's lights are directly in my rear view. My only complaint is that it's big, may start hunting for a smaller one.
