Default First day, first citation.

So I just got this '91 black vette and I'm 17. I've been ****tin my pants waiting to get it home in my driveway (i've been driving an '02 century and just got into University of Florida in the top 20 rank of my class so don't think I'm some spoiled jerk off either, lol"

Well, today was the first day I drove it in my town, and coming out of Advance Auto Parts, I had to do a left turn across a median. So I stopped, and turned, but gassed it too much.

I'm sure you can guess that the tail spun out. I fishtailed a bit, and regained control quickly, but sure enough those damn sirens followed me.

So I'm stuck with this Florida uniform traffic citation for careless driving not requiring a court appearance.

My uncle gave me the car and warned me about that. My dad doesn't want me to have to car very much, and both are concerned about the safety.

Its under my uncle's insurance so he'll probably find out.

What the hell should I do?!?! Do I tell them? This really sucks =/

Your insurance just doubled, or tripled.

Live and learn.

I'd tell who you need too asap, it'll show you take responsibility for your actions.

If you're in the top 20 of your class you know the answer...tell them. Hopefully you learned to appreciate the power under your right foot and that the car is way more than what you've been driving. You'll never make the ten year anniversary club until you respect the car and it's power.

Tell them they were right, you were wrong, and it will never happen again. I have gotten out of more trouble by admitting I screwed up than you can imagine. No one expects it, so they usually say,'Well, O. K., do not let it happen again".

This all sucks. If I get that car taken away, I'll be heartbroken. I've never loved anything so quickly.

But at the same time that thing has me scared ****less of what it can do.

Did you get a ticket for going 40 in a 40mph zone?

Kidding, in Texas we can take a Defensive Driving course. You pay a little more but they clean the citation off your record and insurance doesn't go up. Maybe Florida does the same.

Default Traffic School?

In California, we can usually opt to go to traffic school. If you attend the school, it is never reported to the insurance company.

Do what you can to keep it off your record.

Tell whoever you need to tell. It will look better if you do it now then have to explain yourself and probably get caught in a "white lie" down the road.

Consider it your first lesson learned. Cops look for guys like you. Young, sports car etc...Lay low.

Yeah, everyone's been telling me to be careful on turns because of the back spinning out but damn I didn't figure it happened that easily.

I have a tremendous respect for that car though, especially now.

Just talked to my uncle and he pretty much said I told you so, and that we have to figure out how to deal with it and go to traffic school and all that stuff.

I just don't know how I'm gonna bring myself to do that turn again, lol.

Man up and tell him. White lies or not telling him will bite you in your fourth point of contact later.

In the school of life, experience is a ruthless teacher. As long as you learn from it, you should come out ahead in the long run. Your Corvette is a High Performance Car and you need to respect it - you've got nothing to prove and a lot to lose. And, the people who care about you don't want to see you either in the hospital or the morgue.

I'm guessing that you have little experience with the car. You might want to check into the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America). They have regions all over the country. They have a SOLO program that lets you "race" around a coned course usually in a BIG parking lot. There will be many helpful people there who would love to help you learn how to comfortably control your car.
Did I also say that you will be by yourself in a BIG parking lot with no police to hinder you. I think that it is a great way to learn when, how and how not to let that rear end slide out.

... and, to clarify, I didn't mean to suggest that you shouldn't tell you parents/uncle, etc.... As kind of a troublemaker, I learned early to fess up quick, take the consequences, and move on. Now, my kids (Ages 19, 22 & 23) have learned it too.. and when they show up and admit a mistake, I can't really work it up to get mad at them (for long anyway)
