My Bose speakers have a buzzing sound with engine off.Was wondering has any one tried the amp replacement and pigtails harness from some of the companies selling them.Do they work it seams a lot easier than sending speakers out for repair. It looks like the cost is a little over $100. per speaker.Rob
To be frank I kept repairing my Blose system till I finally got fed up and after it broke again and again and again. So I ditched the entire system and could not be happier. Nothing like having modern electronics in the vert
Yes you can repair them with the amps, but be careful where you buy them. Some don't mount up correctly. Ask me how I know!
But I agree with Flame red. I spent over 4oo bucks, got them working great and 15 miutes later they blew again.
I now sport an Alpine with Infinity's. But if keeping it original is important to you, I would recommend spending the money and sending the unit out for repair.
My wife and I wanted to keep our 86 as original as possible but I also didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on the amps. I ended up picking amps at the bone yard out of early 90s maximas for about $5 a pop. Out of the 6 I picked only one was DOA. I have installed 2 of them and they are still working fine so I have a few handy when the others go.

What I should have done, but my CD player was fried anyway.
I did add a sub also to help add bottom. Those little Bose speakers last forever. If the amps were as solid as those speakers none of us would have a problem.

Try Ebay; I purchased several that way for about $20. per and they worked fine. Alternatively, capacitors can be replaced on the amps that buzz and pop and there are generic instructions for doing so at
you can't find new 5" 1 ohm speakers/woofers for the rear, don't know what the fronts are and all the head units CD players are bad and mine has crappy radio reception. I'll probably just keep the speaker enclosures, but I think a Bose-ectomy is in my C4's future.
bose is all or nothing, not like you can just freshen them up with inexpensive speakers.
I like the trash can photo.Every one I know has trouble with the bose no matter how many miles the car has on it.Last year I seen an 84 non bose car it did not have front speakers or even cut outs for them with original non bose radio the owner played it for me and it sounded good. The bose was another $800. dollar gimmick.

I with this guy, but here is some additional information
Right or wrong I am sticking with the original Bose stuff in my car. It all works normal and sounds pretty good to. I have repaired all 4 amps already over the years and can do them all day long.
Although electronics is my trade, these repairs are not difficult for anyone who has a normal ability to solder and take things apart. There is no experience need for diagnostics. If you don’t have the ability, experience and confidence then maybe it's just not for you.
I have my own write up on the repair from my own experience with links also for additional information from other sources. I have tried to lay it out it practical basic terms in plain English. I am including this previous thread because of the amount of information and don’t want to invent the wheel twice. I was my first amp repair before I did the other 3. So if you have an inclination to fix your own stuff, this may give you the edge to approach it easier.
I did take my radio in thought to get the upgraded CD player. Not only a better unit, but I can now play my own burnt CDs where the original player won't.
