Don't always blame the unions - our companies were putting out some really pathetic products back in the 70's and 80's. Remember the Comets, Pacers, etc.. My Dodge truck was the biggest piece of crap rust bucket I ever had. How about our companies now having their products made in China - did you see a dramatic price drop? These companies would sell us out in a instant if it meant more profits. But getting back to inflation my 84's Z51 package was $51 and my wife's Z51 package in 2007 was $1695.

A lot of people who are not union members wants to blame the unions for everything. Sure there were/are bad union officials & that has to be dealt with, but do people really think that any company is going to pay a decent wage & provide any real benefits out of the goodness of their hearts? The only reason that places like Wally world are starting to sound like they are going to treat their employees fairly is because they are striving to keep the unions out. Remember that companies are in business to make money, not provide jobs or benefits. GM is no exception.
