Well, another thing that dosen't appear to work is the chime to tell me that the lights are on, key in the ignition, or what ever. It appears that my 90 has this feature. At first since there was no indication of it operating I was happy but upon reading the FSM part 8A and finding out it was standard (????) equipment it is one mort thing to fix. Problem is getting to or finding the darn thing. I really hate to take the dashboard out to get to a part when there is an easier way.
Any suggestions are very much appreciated. I already have the L & R access panels out, fenders off, battery out, etc, etc and am just trying to get as much fixed as I can before I put it all together again.
Thanks Pop

On my 94 I had a bad chime unit also and to get at it the top pad had to be removed. Although I was in there repairing the PKE it is still a job to get there.
When I checked out the chimes on a test set up outside the car I found the electronics was working but the chime horn was not. The repair turned out to be re-soldering all the connections to the horn even the side supports. I did this on an educated guess and hope because ALL the solder looked great. It all worked and still going strong 5 years later.
You can sometimes find these chime boxes on Ebay and can be had from other used part places also.

Thanks, do I assume that the chime horn is part of the "box" or is it mounted external?
I keep hoping to "drive" this thing one of these days

The chim horn is in the box mounted on the PC board.

Mine was intermittent also. It was the box and described repair.

Why did I figure that (before I asked)
Thanks Guys, back to the FSM. Eventually there will be enough taken off that I can find everything else

Do you really need it to chime? I did not even know my 94 had one until I read about it. I have heard it twice, both on very cold days.
I just figure I will be under the dash pad sooner or later (as well as every other nook and cranny of the car)...and figured I would take care of it then. No sense ripping it apart just for the chime module.
Normally I would look at it as you do but..... (there's always one) I already have a lot of the lower stuff out to work on installing a keyless entry system (GM), fix radio problems, and also the cruise is non-operative so I guess I might as well try to get all I can at once. In addition I am one of these people that get really bugged by mechanical things that only work half a$$ed. Especially my vehicles. So..... off comes the top of the dash.. It just means another week or so before I get to start driving.
I started driving at 16 and had to wait for 51 more years to get a Corvette so a little longer won't make a big difference. :-)
When I replaced the heater core in my '92 a few years ago, the first part of the job was removal of the dash pad. '90 has about the same interior so the dash pad should be the same. I don't remember exactly how to remove it, but I do remember thinking it really wasn't hard at all. I think you remove all the air vents and the plastic panel on the top of the dash to get to all the screws/nuts that hold the dash pad. I don't think any of those were hard to get to, then you just lift the dash pad out. Maybe you have to remove the radio bezel as well to get to some of the dash retaining scews/nuts, I don't remember.
My chime only works sometimes, usually when it's very hot or very cold. I can slap the top of the dash to get it to work sometimes.
Thanks Blackbird...
I'll get into it tomorrow and see what happens. Today we're babbysitting the grandkids. That's enough challanges today:-)

Well the dash pad is out. Checked the chime module on the bench. Works great
That means the problem is elswhere. Oh well, I needed to get to the horn relay and remove the carcass of the Bose as well. Also the cruise is in op...
Now to find the cruise module.
