when driving my 86 with 68,000 miles on it, around 50 mph or so the upshift light comes on. the shift indicator is in od. does this mean the trans is not shifting into overdrive? any change in throttle position will turn the light off. could it be that a shift solenoid is not working properly? i can not really tell if the car is going into overdrive. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nothin' wrong there....some years don't even have the up**** arrow in the panel. If it is a big bother (doesn't sound like it is) you can change the LCD panel out for one from one the other years.
Yours should lock up in OD @ ~ 50 mph under normal accelleration. Lock up should drop out in the low 40's once you hit the gas again.
Test:
Get the car up to ~52 and just cruise (watch the RPMs) then get off the gas and tap the brake pedal momentarily then get back on the gas pedal (lightly) and RPMs should be higher until the coverter lock up again in OD above ~50. You should be able to feel the difference too.
