What's the difference beetwen 1 5/8 and the 1 3/4 primaries? Is there one better than they other? Is Dynomax any good in header?
The difference is the size of the primary. For my 408, a 1 5/8" primary is too restrictive! I don't think Dynomax has a header for L-98 Corvettes.

My son and I put a set of Hedman long tube headers on his 85 Z-28. Had to redrill the mounting holes to get them to bolt up to the right side head.

Had clearance issues with the frame on the left side, had to 'ding' one of the tubes to get it to fit.

Based on that experience I'd try another brand.

I just had a set of TPIS Long tube headers installed.

The mechanic swore that they would not fit and I would be putting the stock manifolds back on. After he had the exhaust manifolds off I had to leave for an hour. When I returned the headers were on. He could not believe how they fit. Only problem we had was what to do with the air pump tube that runs down to the catalitic converter. It was to close to the headers and was rubbing - So we took it off.

Looks like changing spark plugs will not be harder than before the headers.
These are definately a quality product.

I can't wait to go to the track or dyno to check out what they do for me.

Tube size is dependent on the engine configuration. A large, high winding, high horsepower, engine, needs larger tubes to accomodate the larger volume of exhaust gasses. Smaller, milder, engines, benefit from smaller tubes, in that they promote higher exhaust gas velocity, and scavanging. Unless you have (or have planned) fairly extensive modifications for your engine, the 1 & 5/8ths tube size is probably best for you.

Header coating is a VERY good idea. If you can afford it DO IT! The coating reduces under hood tempetures, cools off more quickly, reduces (eleminates?) rust, aids in the flow of exhaust gasses, reduces (eleminates?) maintenance, greatly extends the life of the header, and keeps them looking good. I don't know how $300.00 Canadian compares to US dollars, but I just got quotes of $205.00, $265.00, and $279.00, (all US) plus round trip freight, to coat my new headers. Used headers would have been more due to additional prep
work.

These are one man's views of tube size and the coating of headers. Good luck.

How about Long tubes for a 92 LT1 vert?

I can't think of any conditions that would cause me to reccommend "shorties". The LT engines wind higher than the CFI or TPI engines, but unless fairly extensive modifications are planned, I would stick with the 1 & 5/8ths tube headers. Coating is ALWAYS reccommended, by me. Have fun.

If I buy Header it will be coated that's for sure. I'm not gonna put something that will make more problems down the road. Thanks for all the help. :seeya
