I fail to see how GM feels that the younger generation haven't warmed up to the Corvette. Look at how many of those cars are being modded and built with a young influence. Those aren't a bunch of retirees building 900hp monsters over there, they are middle aged guys with deep pockets. Not to mention, that as C5 Z06's fall in price, that younger crowds are buying those like no tomorrow.
If they take the Corvette Retro, they will kill any hope of getting a young crowd. Young guys don't want throwback junk, they want technology, modern design and racing inspired. If they keep the Corvette modern looking, with a continuing evolution based upon the ALMS factory teams needs and experiences, while maintaining a level of quality and finish....as the economy rebounds (hopefully) they won't have a problem.

I disagree with the article about the younger generation not warming up to the vette. But younger folks buying c5's ain't gonna help sell new ones. Especially in this economy.
Right now there are lots of young folks out there that would love a vette. But when a well equipped one costs what it does, only old men can afford them. And even many of them are holding back with what's happened with the economy.
I see a slow economic recovery, so I thing the vette needs to come wayyyyyy down in price. I think GM needs to price it in line with the 350z and cars like that.

That's just my 2 cents.
well it definatly wont ever be Z priced but i do agree that 70thousand for a well optioned vette it a bit high i would rather buy a viper that is a year old at 60-80 than a Z06

I know from first hand experience because I am a College kid and love Vettes! But, before I test drove a Vette I wanted everything else (crossfire, stang, 350z). After the test drive, forget it, the Vette was the only car I wanted! Today, kids like my cuz and many kids our age want these ***-crap cars like the 350Z or RX8, which are nice cars but not even close to the Vette! Kids today are just stupid in my opinion. Being in college and hearing/seeing the stupid things they do (like the last presidential election and what they write in the school newspaper) Im afraid for our future let alone the future of the Corvette. Im getting a bit off topic so I will try and relate this to the argument. What kids want today is, well I have no clue. But to please as many people as possible I think the C7 should have touches of retro but push forward to the future of Corvette design. The Vette has to become what it use to be, the leader in affordable sports car design and technology. I can keep going on about how I feel for pages and pages, but this basically sums it up...
Well, dropping the price of a new Corvette 25,000.00 would be suicide. If you want cheaper, with a little performance, that's what the Camaro is for.
In business for the past 8 or so years, where my customer base was nothing but 17-25 year old guys, I've listened to what they want....and it aint retro that's for damn sure. Younger guys have a lot of options to look at, and they want bang for the buck. The corvette is every bit bang for the buck...its just that getting onto that level has a big entry fee.
The recipe is simple...keep doin what your (GM) doing. Evolve the car, do what you can to address costs and see if a small price drop is possible. They should look at some of the options taken by other car makers...mod chassis. For instance, the Evo MR. It's stripped down, no options, just the evo drivetrain. This allows those who want to mod or own the car for build or enthusiast purposes to have the cheapest entry fee possible.
The Z06's are the rage with young guys, that's why the older Z06's are gettin bought up. Create a C6 z06 stripped down (call it the Z51 or some ****)...., no optional audio, cloth seats, only basic climate controls, basic wheels/tires, simplified exhaust, etc. You want to appeal to the younger crowd, create a "mod" ready version of the Corvette that's nothing but a chassis and a badass drivetrain.
