Default [POLL] Better daily driver...........

LT4 coupe
or
1990/1991 ZR1

Keep in mind it will need to pass DEQ and be reliable and cheap to work on.

Do you really want a 6spd as a daliy driver?

I'd say the Lt-4 would be slightly more practical if thats possible... and has a few more safety features.

I would not go ZR1 as a daily driver, just for the simple fact that they are ungodly expensive to work on and the miles really seem to affect their value more than any other C4 I've seen. People seem to consider 50k miles high for a ZR1. I would love to drive my Z daily as it's the best car I've ever had, but want to keep the condition great (no rock chips, bug grime, etc) and the miles down so I am not going to drive it daily.

I have a LT4 Convertible as a daily driver

Bad enough its a 6-speed, but it is a vert to boot. It's cool though, because I have a feeling I will have the top down 99% of the time anyways (even 110 degree days :D )

Only time I dont drive it is if it is raining or snowing, in which case, the folks let me use their F-150 Lariat 4x4 (I never off-road in that... I swear).

I say ZR-1. If you buy a corvette, drive it and enjoy it. Who knows what will happen tomorrow. And why would you not drive your vette to just keep the miles down? Are you saving it for someone else?

Drive them, Race them, Clean them, and show them. I raced my ZR-1 all last weekend. And guess what I will be doing again this weekend. Racing again. I just can't drive her on the street. Too much camber and toe for my street tires right now.

Either one will make a great daily driver. Both engines are near bulletproof if left alone. The ZR1 is probably even stronger. Just depends how much you want to spend for a daily driver.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but are cars not meant to DRIVE VetteBabe? Why are you worried about miles? Resale? WHO CARES! You Own a ZR-1! Drive it! ENJOY it. When its worn out, sell it, and purchase another.

I love my car too. And no, its not my daily. But I drive it when I can. (Corvettes dont run well on construction sites)

This "Save it" mentality is pointless. These cars are meant to DRIVE, and drive HARD. ESPECIALLY ZR-1s

I realized that a little while ago...when I tripped 100,000 miles. Now I drive it ALL the time. Only time I don't drive it is when I go into the city. I hate parking my vette on the streets of Chicago...It's just wrong.

BTW, if the guy with a blue C5 that's always parked on Belmont Ave. is reading this, I'll be more than happy to lend you some garage space. If you let me trade cars every once in a while

I am only saying save the car if you want to. Personally, I want to keep the miles down if possible because the more you drive it, the looser it gets and the closer you are to having to rebuild the billion dollar engine (ZR1). I just want mine to stay nice, and driving it every day it's just not going to be as nice. I drove my 87 daily from 74,000 miles to 186,000 miles. And yes, the miles did vastly effect the selling price. Say what you want about miles, but everyone knows the lower the better. When selling my yellow car, I had many people call and say oh, that is too many miles, thanks, hang up. I don't plan to sell the ZR1, but I didn't plan to sell the 87 either, and when I did, I wished I hadn't driven up the miles. I have no problem with someone wanting to enjoy their car, be my guest! I intend to enjoy this one, and not say, oh I can't drive it today because I have to keep the miles off. I just won't drive it EVERYWHERE like I did my 87. It won't get high miles doing that anyway.

As they say... more miles, more smiles! :chevy

I personally would have no problems with a ZR-1 was a daily driver... thoughts of buying one has crossed my mind many times recently.

How selfish we all are! What about the year 2032, when kids scooting around high school on levitating platforms are busy drawing pictures of fast cars from the 20th century in their notebooks, wondering where all the ZR-1's and Grand Nationals have gone? :chevy

Get whatever you want! and drive the thing! I only get rid of a car by selling it by the Ton or by selling it to the insurance company! high miles makes the car worthless but hey ask yourself this do you want a car to drive or a car that will sit there in mothballs for 20 years JUST to make a profit on it! sorry but a 100% original 53 given to me would have 100,000 on it within 2 years! just because i dont see the point in 'saving it", if not for work I would make a trip to see ALL the mebers here in alphabetical order just so I could drive around and enjoy the car.

I agree you should drive the car when you can enjoy it, BUT, a lot of the time there is no point in putting miles on a nice car. Going to Wal-Mart where it will have carts pushed into it? Going to the crowded movie theater when it's not even a date? Going to the grocery store? I don't go out of my way to save the car, but for me 5K miles a year is plenty for pleasure driving.

Uh..ya. Why not? My first vette was also my daily driver (96 LT4 CE). As all of you (should) know it had a sixer. IMO a six speed is the only option.

The last year of most car model years is (in theory) always the best built, thus meaning a 96 is going to be the best built of all the C4's (they had 12 years to figure it out), plus it will be newer. Even if you don't drive a car time wears on parts. As for cheap to fix, that work is usually an oxymoron with vettes.

1. Both are manual trans cars so for daily commuter use they would be a pain.
2. Both are no longer under factory warranty so be prepared to spend $$.

If I had to count on either one to get me to work I would pick the LT4. In reality I would rather have a "new" car under warranty to ensure that I am at work everyday instead of at the parts counter.
