I re-polarized the LCD's on my 86 this past weekend with the film I bought from polarization.com. Between that and the new bulbs, the cluster works like new!!

Can you elaborate a little more prehaps? Which film did you buy? How much of it you needed? The condition of your LCD before? (ie. was it sunfaded?) It would be great to hear any tips as well. TIA
I'll take some pics of the finished product and post them tonight. This was a repair of the sun faded LCD's. I re-polarized the speedo and the tach. I did not do the center LCD as it was in pretty good shape and I would have needed more film to do it. The speedo was so bad before I started it that I could not see anything. The scale was completely inoperable and the digital readout showed up to 9 MPH (far right digit only). I learned how to take the cluster apart at batee.com and I learned of the film on this forum. Not a very difficult job if you have some mechanical ability and you take your time.
Thanks for the info, that's exactly what i wanted to know. My speedo is in about the same shape from the sounds of it. Just so I understand(I've yet to pull mine, so i apologize if this is a dumb question), are you replacing the same film that already exists inside, or is this an overlay that allows you to view it again?
Did you also replace the bulbs? If so, did you go with the 882's or take the advice from batee.com and use the 194's?

Sorry I didn't get the pics up last night but I ran out of time. I'll shoot for it again tonight. I used the xenon bulbs. I found them on e-bay for $19.99 with free shipping. From what I understand these burn bright with less heat and were actually used by GM in 1989. The package included the 4 cluster bulbs with scokets and 3 smaller bulbs for the directional’s and hi-beam indicator. As far as the LCD's, you'll need to completely disassemble the cluster to get to them. Once you have the glass out, simply use a razorblade to lift a corner and pull the old film completely off. On mine this was pretty easy. I then use goof off to clean off any sticky residue. The film is self adhesive so you cut it to size, peel off the backing and stick it to the glass. Once it's applied, peel off the protective covering on the front and you're done. If you need any more help, send me a PM and I'll give you my phone number so we can talk.
Great info, appreciate it immensely! I just ordered the bulbs as well per your suggestion. As soon as I get all the parts in the mail, I'll tear it down and let you know how the rebuild went. Thanks again!
