Right now im driving a 1992 that has an all original stereo system.
Everything DID work fine until a few days ago when i washed the car.
I know the car does leak but didnt think it would screw with the wiring.
Heres my problem. I washed my car, dried it and took it out for a spin. Had the radio on and everything no problem. Stopped for about a half hour at sears and then when i got back in the front passenger side speaker was crackling. I figured it was the speaker.
I got home and swapped the one from the driver side and it still crackled which was odd. So for the next few days i was driving without a passenger speaker no problem. Until 2 days ago when all of a sudden the back passenger side speaker is doing the same thing.
I took the same procedure to make sure it wasnt the speaker and it wasnt. So now i have all speakers on the right side unplugged. Keep in mind i washed the car like 4 days before that and it never rained after.
Im all out of ideas, and i really dont want to pay soemone to strip my car to find a bad wire.

Any advice?
Thanks!
When you swapped speakers, did you swap the amp?
Betting the amp went or you got the CDM wet.
CDM is the brains of the system.
Check wiring harnesses from front to back, I will have to check my 92 and see if the CDM is in the passenger side storage compartment, know my 93 is.
Could be you got water on pass. side front speaker, but seems funny it got into the rear, unless car got wet there.
I was hoping someone had a sure answer to this problem. I have a 93 40th Anniversary Edition and I've developed the same problem in my right rear speaker. I was told it is the amp. I know Mid America and Corvette Central both sell replacement amps and it's suggested to replace both sides when doing this, however I was hoping for a simpler less expensive solution.
Sorry for the long wait for the reply i was asleep... I did swap out both speaker and amp and both of them crackled. I tried each seperatly to determine if either one was the source.
I did it for front and back.

Forgot to mention when i used the casette player the crackling stopped when i played music.
I dont remember if it stopped when i played from radio but im betting it did.
So where is the CDM located? passenger side?
How can i tell if thats the problem. Should i rip the door panels off to see if there is an exposed wire or something?
The CDM's are located different places on different years. I don't know which ines are different for sure. On my 90 is located up under the pass side dash and they are a pain to get to.
If you played a tape and the crackle stopped it sounds like you may have a bad HU. Or it still could be the CDM.

If yours is hissing it definitely sounds like the amps. That's what mine was doing before I took out the whole system and replaced it.
