There is a new guy at work that I have to mention here. He goes around telling everyone about ALL his Corvette knowledge and mechanical experience. In other words, a self proclaimed expert! When he found out I have a bone stock 85 4+3, he asked me if I had the 454 or the 427 motor. I just looked at him with a dumb look, and his next line was, don't you know the difference? I told him it was a small block Chevy. He then says, Oh......you must have a 327, right? His explaination of the 4+3 was it could be used as a 4 speed or a 3 speed automatic. He said he knew because he said he repairs them all the time. Where do they come from?

Reason: typo
I have one up the street, but he's a real nice guy. He stopped by to see my C5. He just bought a C6, a really nice one but is not yet up to speed on Vettes (showed him how to take his top off and store it today). Like I said, a really great guy and we'll most likely spend considerable time talking Vettes.

lol... I was at the gas station recently and i had a dude strike up a conversation with me about my vette', same deal, he asked if it was a 427... I wasn't in the car-talk mode (very rare) and I was kind of like a 4 what?... after he repeated it, it finally clicked.
I said no it's got a small block.
"oh, so you got the 327", to which i responded ..."ahhh...no, it's a 350"...
he was a real nice guy, I'm not typically enough of an a$$ to correct someone. So, I topped off the tank and thanked him for the convo...
I run into a guy that has a 92 coupe once in a while at a cruise in or show. His saw blades are on backwards. When I mentioned it to him, he insisted that's how they came from the factory. He also has C5 emblems on his fenders that he thinks are stock.

It must be the weather!
Same deal, @ a gas station. My license plate's reads LT5. Guy comes over, starts ooohing and aaaahing. Rattles off how many Vette's he has owned. Then comes the $64K question. "What does LT5 stand for? I say...its a ZR-1. He comes back with..."Oh yeah, I should have known that...I had that option on my 79 convertible". It was everything I could do to not bust out laughing.

People like this are not limited to cars. A guy at a local airport built an amazing replica of the WW1 era tri-plane as flown by Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron). The moment he rolls it out of the hangar some dolt walks up and loudly announces "How would you like to shake the hand of a direct decendant of the Red Baron?" proclaiming himself to be the decendant. I guess we're lucky to meet him! Richtofen died in combat without heirs.
My dad always said. "Never have a battle of wits with an unarmed man. Niether of you wins, and he won't know the difference."
Ignorance is the absence of knowledge. Stupidity is when one just can't learn. Sometimes it's better to just keep quiet and walk away while laughing inside. I guy I worked with 15 years ago swore his brother had a 65 Vette with the special-order optional metal body. I chose to remain silent.
