Default 150MPH Mark

Does anyone know what year C4 was able to supass the 150 MPH mark offically. I am asking because my son in law just perschased a 09 Infinity G37X`Sedan and claims of 0 to 60 in the 5 second range and top speed of 155 MPH seems overblown to me. Are these newer cars as stable as older Corvettes at such speeds? Just wondering when family sedans caught up to older C4s in all round performance.

In its January 1985 "ten best" issue, Car and Driver magazine pronounced the Corvette to be America's fastest production car at an even 150mph top speed

Yes, the G can achieve those marks and they are on par with a late model C4. Remember, the C4 is 15-25 years old depending on your model, so the G's times aren't as impressive as the vette's times for an aging car.

You would think aerodynamics would be a big part of it's Stability.
I dont think some big 4 inches off the ground car its going to cut the wind G forces as well as a car lower to the ground that is designed for it.
Ive been 120 in a family car its sloppy ive been 110 in the vette and still had great control.

120 in my Camaro felt like 200 compared to the C4. I wonder what it will feel like when I finally reman my suspension?

About a year ago I had my bone stock 1985 4+3 at 147 mph on an empty highway once just to see if it was possible. NO PROBLEM THERE! I know 150 was achievable, but why? Car handled perfectly but I see no reason to ever do it again. 0 to 60 in about 5.5 seconds. Maybe slow for some now, but it's all I'll ever need in a sportscar.

Motortrend magazine wrote an article when the LT1 first came out that they test drove a stock C4 against other cars like the mitsibishi 3000GT. it went 172.2 mph the 3000 went 171. To fast for me but still impresive.

I have an original Chevy sales brochure for the early C4 in which they state top speed simply as "greater than 150mph"...

It's amazing how aerodynamics have come along in modern sedans. The C4 is pretty good but not perfect. Take the mirrors for example..
The drag coefficient is something like 0.33. I've seen modern sedans with numbers like 0.29 . Then again I understand the C4 was designed to produce a certain amount of downforce at speed (which would make it a bit less slippery)

155mph is like a benchmark now, set by larger German cars a while ago, it's getting disturbingly common

Had the C5 up to 165 and it was stable as hell. Had my TBSS up to 130 and it was a very different experience.

My stock 96 will go about 170mph... 0-60 at about 5.0 sec (with a good launch). It is really stable at high speeds. The wind noise is a bit much, but that is it...

Oh yeah, if you are crazy enough to try, make sure your tires are rated at least 168mph or better!

Check this guys Vette out... Basically stock (knn air filter and a chip). Nice video too...

Quick Story:
At the gas pump a few days back, a guy came up to me and was like "nice car, how fast does it go? 80mph, 90mph?"
I responded with a friendly laugh, "no, about 170mph"
His response, "Dang"

Been in mustang fox body over 165 on junk centerline rims, and it was pretty hairy. A c4 with suspension components, and tires in good shape is much more stable.

The 1985 Vette was the one that went 150.

just tell him to compare by year, not by performance numbers. In 85 a vette was Superior to all other American cars being produced.

My "other car" is a 09 G37 Coupe. It is pretty quick and very stable at speed. I never topped the speedo out at 160 but 130 was very stable and quiet. Not as fun as the 86 - and she is not completely road worthy yet.

Lots of "cool" gadgets but I am sure it is going to cost a fortune to fix when the warranty ends. I will have to sell it before that
