My stock 96 will go about 170mph... 0-60 at about 5.0 sec (with a good launch). It is really stable at high speeds. The wind noise is a bit much, but that is it...
Oh yeah, if you are crazy enough to try, make sure your tires are rated at least 168mph or better!
Check this guys Vette out... Basically stock (knn air filter and a chip). Nice video too...
Quick Story:
At the gas pump a few days back, a guy came up to me and was like "nice car, how fast does it go? 80mph, 90mph?"
I responded with a friendly laugh, "no, about 170mph"
His response, "Dang"
It's an automatic at that? interesting...
good to know that they are "professionals"... I guess all the other people on the freeway are also "professional" stand ins...
Hmmm that video is questionable ....
Ive been 176 and those white lines were not comeing no where near fast enough unless that video was in slowmo at about 140 those white lines are solid lines....
Maybe they had it on Kph.
Before somebody say's something no not in the L98... with this!

Well looks like 168 to me...Its a video, so its different then being there... The speedo was in MPH if you look you can see...
The sedan and coupe are designed differently, obviously the coupe a little more sporty, but then even that has a sport package. The sedan will run in the 5.anything range 0-60 only because its a g37x, the x standing for all wheel drive. Quarter mile time will also corrospond to this because of lack of wheel spin. On a highway it would probably be worse for an l98 or older vette because of the rpms the vq37 has(redlines at 7,500). Because of over 300hp and that high of a redline yeah it probably tops out at around 160. Then again the lt1 I read is rated at 164 or 168.
Blue 92- Thats the one, my memory was wrong on the mitsi though, I see it was the Acura nsx that went 171. Thanks for pic. of that article. It was motortrend wasn't it? Dang oldhiemers.
I had my (recently sold) 2008 mitsubishi evo up to 155 mph and it felt really stable, but there are a lot of aero enhancements associated with the evo over a regular lancer. it also still had 5 mph in it.
I think that car may have been faster than my C4 around a road course...or at least comparable.
I had my 97 convertible Z28 up to 155mph once, the wind sounded like it was giong to rip the top off the car. I will never run that fast again. I did that when the car only had a cold air intake, so I am sure the LT-1 in a Vette will run well over that.
Ive had my 1993 vette up to about 155mph and just at around 140 I feel like lift and drag start to take a HEAVY effect on the car.
I was on a professional alignment with great tires. But I felt that at around 140-145ish it started to get a little sloppy. The car felt like it was coming away from the pavement and the steering became a little loose and liked to wander... But I hit the brakes hard about 155 to 70 and those C5 brakes stopped me GOOD! hahaha
In my 3.45 equiped 95 A4 LT1, I've been an indicated 155 in Drive, not OD(GPS record indicates that the speedo is about 5 mph slow at that speed IE car is going faster). In D it pulls quickly to 7,000 rpm, once it shifts to OD it doesn't pull as quickly the MPH continues to climb, but, I don't know my current Top Speed since I run out of safe test area before I run out of speed.(0-155 takes a little more than 6/10ths of a mile I believe drag radial will cut that distance down BIG TIME.....I have traction issues on the bottom end IE 1st and 2nd ..).....(At my previous test area I've be in the low 180s and then I went on another round of mods for MORE POWER>>>>>>>>)
My wife's G8GT quickly pulls to a little under 140mph and then the speed limiter kicks in....G8 is stable and handles pretty well at speed....as for the C4 there is a little more wind noise but the car is STABLE and feels great at speed, however, I have modded most of my vette (engine mods, suspension, tranny, brakes ....etc )
qu
I can't imagine doing speed runs in traffic....
.....and posting the video record on the internet....pure genius

Been in mustang fox body over 165 on junk centerline rims, and it was pretty hairy. A c4 with suspension components, and tires in good shape is much more stable.
Did you have a GPS in the car? Just wondering I've owned several fox mustangs, stock and modified, and they are all scary above 120 or so lol. I recently had my stock 85 gt up to 135 (with the GPS in the car) lucky I didn't take it up higher, my drive shaft came loose not too much after that
Funny thing...today my neighbor asked "how fast does that thing go?"....as he pointed to my Ruby. I told him 155 to which he said "you can kill yourself twice at that speed."
Actually, until I read this post, I didn't know the LT1 could reach 170. I feel a bit ashamed to admit that.
