Wake up call
I just want to remind my C4 brothers and sisters to take care of their health.
Just got home a few days ago from the hospital where I work. Only this time I was on the receiving end.
Too heavy, too stressed and not enough exercise put me in the Cardiac Cath unit with chest pain. Now I have 2 stents in place to open up a 95% blockage in one of my arteries. I am scheduled to return next month to open up another one that is 70% blocked.
I am the kind of person that needs to be hit between the eyes before I learn my lesson. Don't let this happen to you.
I am going cold turkey on the "bad lifestyle" habits.
Part of my therapy is to drive the Corvette more! I drive a 4cyl Nissan truck back and forth to work. Last night I worked my usual night shift but took the C4 instead. What a difference! It is just a low HP 91 A4 but it is such a great feeling to have that torque under the right foot. My insurance from the NCM allows me to drive the car to work a few times a month and I am going to make full use of that option! I'm sure my blood pressure benefits from each time I take her out.
You take care of yourself out there fellow Corvette nuts!
Corvetteronw-welcome to the club. I started out last year with no medications, etc. At annual physical Doctor says Chlesterol has been going up for several years, blood pressure was a concern and I had turned 60 the January before. By July I had had a stress test, a CAT scan and the catherization. They found I have already had a "silent heart attack", one artery was 95% blocked, which they stinted and another artery was 100% blocked. Luckily I had built an artery around the blockage as they were not able to open it up. I am now on three medications, etc., etc., etc.
The good news was I found I had more energy and people said I looked better. Like you I need to work on the eating habits and get more exercise. Driving the Vette does make any day go better. I wish you the best
You speak the truth my freind! Two years ago I had my "mans exam" done because I just felt something was wrong. I had problems "taking a leak" in other words. Two doctors found absolutely nothing wrong with me! They said it was stress and to just "ignore it and relax". Yea right! I didn't give up and checked with a third doctor. Yep! He found the problem with my prostate the other two doctors missed. He did a biopsy and found the very earliest stage of prostate cancer! It scared the hell out of me! But I left it up to him to steer me in the right direction. I had the surgery to remove it and found no spread and absolutely no other problems. No radiation or chemo was ever needed because I found it so early on. Most guys don't want to have the "mans exam" for fear of finding something. The real fear is when you don't have the exam and something is festering and you don't know. If you have a feeling something is wrong, get it checked. Don't be a tough guy and ignore it. It could save your life! I have absolutely NO problems healthwise now and feel terrific! Early detection works.

I get my manly exam every year. Next is the tunnel dive with camera.

My wife has been a cardiac nurse for 37 years in CCU. Sometimes i get mad because of the food she cooks ( low fat everything) but I guess it's better then the above. Good Luck

Thanks!
Docs asked if I have a pet. My wife has a cat. He said to let it climb up in my lap and pet it as it is very soothing and calming as it purrs.
I think that is a bit odd. Your thoughts on that?

Uhhhh....I dunno about that. There's this mangy Canadian feline that's covered in tar for some reason and keeps trying to jump up in my lap, rub against my leg, etc. I'm finding it quite stressful.....so much so I've had to get out the Big Can of Cat Spray. May wanna rethink that one. A dog is a much better pet.

Yeah, just what you need Ron, a 200lb dog on your lap
Mangy, I'm well kempt I'm crushed
Having terrible genes, my mom and dad had heart problems and died early. I knew I had to do something for my health or else. Started running in my mid-20's and still do. I've been running with the same group for 30 years now....guess we got old together. We're a bunch of old farts that run at the beach and drink beer after. So far, so good.

The tunnel drive is a piece of cake, the 24 hours leading up to it is no fun but easy to do. Just remember to stay "close to home". They've got me scheduled for a camera going up the other side, now THAT is an experience!!
