Does anyone know how to fix the dash speedometer light in a 1985?

There are a couple different types of problems with the digital clusters in the early C4's.

1) There are 4 bulbs that act as "back lighting" that make the LCD screens visible. Replacing the bulbs is not too hard, but is easiest to do by pulling the cluster.

2)The LCD system itself can have problems. This site is the best site I know of to help with LCD issues:

What type of problems are you having?

The problem is the driving at night because the light behind the Speedometer is out. The light behind the Tach is still on.

Sounds like you just need to replace the dash bulbs. There are 4 and I recommend replacing all 4 at once if you are going to pull the cluster. I also like to use latex/nitrile gloves when handling the bulbs.

Welcome aboard to a group of people who share your hobby/obsession - the Corvette.

Here's a post I just noticed that is probably echoing your problem:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...sh-is-dim.html

This messageboard will soon become your best friend - there is over 50 years of knowledge dispersed amoung the 100,000 plus members available at your fingertips, 24/7. Learn how to use the "Advanced Search" button and you will have loads of information at your instant command.

There was a tutorial I saw last year that went step-by-step on how to remove the display, take it apart, replace the bulbs, bench test it and how to place the display back in without damaging it. There are also supporting vendors on this board who will rebuild your cluster if you need that service.

I spend $25 for an yearly membership on this board and am letting my Corvette Magazine subscriptions lapse. I hope you get as much info and enjoyment from this site as I do.
