It's only worthless if you don't get the V1.

No... trust me my little Beltone starts squeeling way before I ever see the police car. K,Ka,Laser it doesn't matter. My detecter was a gift to me, but even if it wasn't It would be a good investment. If you buy one with good sensativity, you will never get a ticket. I know, otherwise my username wouldn't be Leaadfoot.

The ones w/ detectors onboard, I could usually watch their front bumper dip as soon as I activated on them. Sure I'd loose 5 - 7mph of their true before-activation speed... before they jammed their brakes, but they'd usually still lock-in 15 - 20mph over the posted.
Sounds a lot like me. Went from 50 in a 30 to 37 in a 30 but he still came after me. Couldn't catch me though.

I've found the radar detector gives me about a 5 second warning of a cop on average before I can actually spot him. More than enough time to slow down IMO.

i gave mine away 10 years ago and havent had a ticket since. i drive the standard 85 in a 55 every day in atlanta traffic. turn the radar detector off and look for cops when you speed. you will find yourself more alert without it.

One more thing, different states use different radar bands apparently....like in VA the noise you hear when passing a sliding door in a grocery store or something was actually cop radar in NC! I was like, that's funny, I don't see a store out here in the boonies...AAAAHHH!! Cop!!! And almost got a ticket. You get to where you ignore certain beeps but be careful when you're in a foreign area. :smash: I just stopped trying to go 10 over all the time and haven't been pulled since!

I have also heard that the technology cops use is always one step ahead of our detectors at least, as once the cops get something new, the detector companies rush to copy it. Well, by then, they have something else new, and so on. Wonder if that is true?

One step behind...

That's why I like the V1. They are upgradeable. :D

Jennifer,

Did you ever get popped for HAVING a detector?

I'm told they have 'detector detectors' here in VA, but I don't know if thats just to intimidate you into not using or not.
