Default console lid latch spring.....

anyone know how to install it? I have been screwing with it for about an hour and cannot get it in right...Its installed right now but its extremely hard to push the button to open the console and I have to push it in just as hard to close it....

Long story short...massive heat coming off tunnel and floorboards was un acceptable. My uncle owns a C7 and he completely sealed it up with second skin, had a little bit left over we we put it on the driver side of the tunnel and then I bought a bunch of generic isolation (reflective) from home depot and skinned the entire car. Long weekend. Get it back together and the only thing left is the console lid to be tightened in and the seats put back in (swapped old drivers seat for new barely used passenger seat). So we put the lid on and its completely unaligned and will not clasp shut. I screw with it for about half an hour and snap off the plastic latch that hooks under the matal tab that sticks out that holds down the entire lid. I take the console lid apart and pull out the broken latch hook and super glue back on. In the meantime I put the seats back in and this seemed to straiten out the console as the lid sits pretty square back on the console now. All the extra thickness under the carpet must have thrown everything out of whack just a little

Anyway, when I went back to put the latch hook back in there, a spring popped out at me and I have been stuck ever since. It is U shaped but does not hook to anything, looks to me like it just sits on top of the latch and places resistance on it, but no matter what I do It does not seem to work like it used to......
