Default interior light issue.....??

this is very frustrating, hopefully somebody has come across this and has some advice.

when i open either door at night (in the dark) the main interior light (attached to the rear view mirror) does not come on! although both lights behind each seat near the hatch do come on!

with the key in the ignition i can manually hit the switch to the main interior light - and it works...

if i use the light switch to turn on the interior lights while in the car- again the 2 lights behind the seats come on although not the rear-view mirror light!

the only thing that i have done recently is that i have replaced the pin switch on the passengers door as it wasn't working correctly - meaning triggering the interior lights to come on or door ajar etc ... now that i have replaced that switch - it does properly turn on the rear 2 lights behind the seats and the makes the "door ajar" light display on the dash also the security light flashes if the door is open.

i wanted to get this switch fixed ultimately to finally get my PKE to work - as it has never worked and found through this forum that those switches are important! although i still have an issue that my "chimes" are not working.. so thats another issue that needs resolving prior to the PKE working!.. BUT the light is irritating as its hard to see without it on!.. any advice appreciated.. thank you!

All is well.

Make sure your map light is in the 'on" position to light when doors are open, otherwise...not.

Your map light will turn on REGARDLESS of its position (on/off) with the key in and in the "run" position.
It will turn off after start.

Your fob/pke has no effect on anything. If it's NOT transmitting or recieving, then thats another story but not related to your csty lights.

If your csty lights don't work, then it's something you did during install of your switches.

I just duplicated EVERYTHING you just described...all is well.

Your "chimes" have nothing to do with your problem. It;s a faulty chime unit, located just above your HVAC and just below your center dash top. You can remove the dash top and give it a good cleaning...this has worked for many people, or replace it. Most choose to leave it alone as it's a PITA to get too. Your "chime" has nothing to do with your csty lights or VATS or your PKE.

You didn't mention if your door, console or glove lights work.

G'luck.

Ok, so when I open my door, and the rear view mirror map lights do NOT come on, it's normal/correct?

Correct, unless you have the map light set to "ON". Then they will, briefly.
OK?

Normal position is OFF, cause otherwise theyd be on at night when your driving with the headlights on, so most folks use the OFF positon.

Thanks for the feedback Jamesnns... I went out last night and it is odd.. meaning the rear view light does work when the vette is in the "run" position. and then turns off after i leave the car... but when i come back this morning the light remains ON and does not turn off like the rear lights after a few seconds after starting the car.. so I manually turned the switch off. I was pretty sure the car front area was lit when i put my key into the outside door to open it up.. now its dark excluding the rear lights which don't provide much light inside. Also.. yes the console lights and door lights work fine..

I'm going to the dealer to buy another FOB as when mine stopped working a few years ago I assumed I was done with it.. although I'm tired of "keying into the car" I either want to get the factory PKE to work or get an aftermarket one installed for keyless entry. I'll give it a shot now that i have the door ajar switch replaced which wasn't allowing it to activate it. although the light on the dash works, programs etc.. I'm sure I'll post something later on about that. lol

and for the chimes, I agree if its not affecting the csty lights or PKE.. I'll leave it alone!

On a good note - the passenger door's interior panel was loose and always coming away from the door when closing.. after reading this forum I came across the fix using plates and rivets to re-enforce the moldings inside and put the door panel back on and a snug fit and works great! only took 4 years of frustration before tackling that job.. thank you to the postings for the great diagrams and directions on that situation!

YW,
I've gotten to know csty lights intimatley...I spent two weeks on mine, I got it resolved..mostly.
My rear cargo lights will blow my fuse, that's the only thing I can't seem to nail down...so I just took the damned bulbs out..it's a vert anyway...who needs em?

Electrical gremlins SUCK...
One day I'll tackle that chime unit but tearing the top dash out JUST to do that doesn't make too much sense to me...lol. Sometimes my chimes wirk, sometimes not...usually not.
One member here didn't know he had chimes until one day they just decided to work...said it scared the Hell outta him...funny huh?
